My friend has a nokia and she tried to send me a MMS but when it came to me it didn't show as it should. I go the mms but instead of rhe picture and text there was a list with the pic and text. eg.

adasd.txt
jasd.jpg

and then I could click on the links to se the text or the pic... strange...
When I send sms to her everything is normal.. she has a 6610. Anyone have the same experience??

I also get the same thing, it seems to be that Nokia and SE phones work on different MMS configurations. I can receive MMS messages from T68i's and other P800's fine and the nokia's can send MMS messages between themselves perfectly well.

The baffling thing is that it's only a one way problem. I can send MMS message to nokia's and they show as intended (except for any recorded sound on the lesson nokia models) but nokia messages are always split into their separate components when I get them on my P800.

Considering the forum I'm writing this on I'm going to blame nokia. Damn they have a lot to answer for

When you recieve MMS from some "plane" Nokia such as 6610, 7210, 7250 it comes like an attachment but from N7350/350 it is regular. Must be something with different standards...

I had the exact same problem, but... it was from my brothers T610! I can send them to him fine though. I suspect its either a network issue or a P800 problem. ~Eva

Have you guys actually used the mms composer in nokias? If so, you'll realise that mms's are not composed in the 'Powerpoint' style slideshow as in SE phones. Its more like email where you have a text file and can add images as attatchments. This may explain the 'problems' you guys are experiencing.

@ruff rider ~ Read my post - I don't think it's a Nokia issue. ~Eva

the "problem" is more involved than this. I have looked at the SMIL code form Ericssons, Nokias and different phoens, and also looked at the SMIL spec..

MMS is a SMIL based message... SMIL defines structure content and layout, but not all phones use all three.

Nokias (and possibly also the T610) send MMS messages as a package, with the SMIL describing the package and its objects as "attachments".

The P800/T300/T68i sends a MMS package with a SMIL document, containing information on HOW to display the message, and has the objects as inline objects. It can also include ATTACHMENTS such as vCards, which are handled differently.

WHen the P800 recieves a MMS which has the display formatting, it displays it as a proper MMS, which the attachments seperately. This is the correct way for a smartphone/pda device which has the concept of files.

If you dont understand, consider the analogy of E-Mail. Email can be plain text with images as attachments or HTML formatted with embedded images. Sending a HTML formatted message will ensure that all compatible mail clients will display the message as intended. However, plaintext is up to the client. Hotmail/Outlook express displays attached images embedded into the document, whereas Outlook displays them as attachments, which need to be opened seperately.

The P800/T300/T68i/7650 sends the MMS equivelent of a HTML message with embedded pics, whilst the Nokia (basic) and the T610 sends the MMS equivelent of a Plain Text message with attachments... the browser on the nokias/t68i/t610 reformats the "plain text" MMS into a single embedded MMS, whereas the P800 is more like Outlook, and handles it as a plaintext message.

If u want to see this in action, send multipage MMS to an email address and see how hotmail/outlook express/outlook displays the final MMS, to be able to understand. (sending to an email causes the MMS to be turned into a "plain text" MMS with all objects embedded as attachments)

@janahan ~ Very interesting that, I thought it was something along those lines. I have recieved MMS from other P800's and it displays it as normal so P800 to P800 seems fine. ~Eva

evo, yeah it took me a while to figure that one out, and it does make sense in the way the p800 handles attachments. another intresting point is that by sending as attachments will stop some MMS servers from resizing the image, which can sometimes happen when sending large embedded images.

as an aside point, u can force the P800 to send images/sounds/text as attachments too. Just create a blank MMS, and instead of embedding the objects and creating a slideshow, click on the attachments tab, and add the files as attachments. If u send the resulting file to a Nokia and a p800, u will find the Nokia will display the pictures as embedded pictures, and the P800 will display them as attachments that u have to click on to view. I am not sure about how the T68/T610 will handle it, but i suspect it woudl be similar to the Nokia.

in fact this way, you could theoretically attach an MP3 file, or a word document... though i woudl love to see how well your provider will love u for sending a 3mb MMS!

And before ppl start screaming that this is a "bug" the behaviour is absolutely correct for a smartphone.

and also remember the T610/Nokia phones are designed for ordinary consumers, therefore they may not have all the advanced feature to "confuse" them! The t68i was an unusal beast in that it had a complete MMS editor, btu that was one of its downfalls as some users found it complicated.

Interesting reading!
But as a former t68i user and now an t610 user
i cant really say that the mms composer differs
comparing the two phones are, u shoure the t610
is worse than the t68i because i coundn't tell
any differense.
