software upgrade from T68 to T68I |

Hi
I have just received the following from about the upgrade to a T68i.
Dear Mr ?????,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson.
With regards to your enquiry concerning the T68 handset, there will be
software available in the not too distant future, which will allow your
phone to use MMS. However we do not have a release date for this software.
Also you need to make sure that the network you are using will allow you to
use the function of MMS.
The software will not upgrade the handset to a T68i, it will include some
functions of the T68i, but not all of them will be available.
If not all the Functions which ones will be dropped.
What do you think.

I would'nt be surprised if they drop the picture phonebook etc. goodies and only bundle todays software with MMS in it.
At least that would explain why they are not already delivering it since the software for T-68i is available.... just a thought. |

I have my daults about if the people working at Sony Ericsson really knows what's right or wrong. I found an article today on Mobil that says that they have spoken to product manager Per Alksten, and he claims that the software will be the exact same on T-68 as T-68i when updated late May.
You can find the complete article here (in Swedish though): http://www.mkf.se/nyheter/visa.asp?id=4870&sid=1 |

@Bart
I don't think that by sending e-mails to will achieve anything. I am sure they know what and how to do something. They have a plan to follow and I am sure they will do it. I addition, I am not so sure if people handling e-mails know much details about the software. They just giving us general answers like: the MMS software will be availale but we don't know the timing..... etc. |

Spamming them wont do it - for sure. What I wonder though is why they don't release it. It has been released for the T68i, and the same source I mentioned before claims the hardware to be exact same as T68. Then why not just release it! That is what I find strange.
This could mean:
(1) They are rewriting the code for some reason for the T68.
(2) The hardware is not the same.
(3) They are reducing features just to include MMS, not picture phonebook etc.
(4) They are holding it back for some marketing reasons (maybe to sell more of the new T68i now in the beginning).
Just my thoughts...

Has anyone seen the FCC documents at tsixtyeight.com? They categorically show that the hardware is the same. It seems to me people are now competing to be able to say 'told you so'!

@Cybervisitor
In my own opinion, they don’t release the software yet just because the software engineer at SE are totally incompetent… look at what they did with the T9, already developed by Tegic !!! They are not even able to re-use it properly…!!! What’s a shame !!!
For me, never again any SE product…

Lets face it we don't need all the features on the T68 or the T68i we can sacrifice some of the T68 crappy features to incorparate some of the nicer features of the T68i.
We can easily sacrifice crap games that we don't want, and sacrifice some of the phone book memory after all how many of need to hold 510+ numbers? My sim card alone can handle 200 numbers.
The old default backgrounds should definitly go as many of us prefer the ones we download ourselves. As should the default ringtones have many of us still like them or use them?

All right-this is the last time I will mention connection T68m-T68i-again because of some of you who have IQ the same as pH:
T68m WILL be possible to upload with NEW software of t68i.settings will be erased. Hardware is bulletproof the same, they just want to sell as much as possible T68i s. They CAN but obviously wont set the same level of aplications on upgraded t68m.BUT THEY WONT for the time being.
SE is talking rubbish!
NO kia. |
