Those who know what the dreaded "Dead HBH-30" is, will know what I am talking about.
Its where you HBH-30 mysteriously dies for no apparent reason, and when you take it back for warranty, they give you a new one.
Well, the faul (for those who dont know) lies in the fact that the ear support (the part behind the lobe) is actually the battery, and there are wires running down the support, through the hinge, and into the earpiece.
Basicly, after reapeated "flips" from one ear to the other, one of the wires "work hardens" and eventually snaps. This is the cause of the dead phonepiece.
You can check if yours suffered this fate by gently unclipping the ear support from the earpiece and checking if both wires are still attached.
If this isnt the case with yours, that means it must have snapped in the moulded part further up (the thin part that flexes when placing over the ear) in which case you are S.O.L.
Anyway, mine died, and SE wouldnt fix it (arguements about recepts, etc) so I fixed it myself, alot of pain and epoxy later, the unit is back together and working (until next time)
The best unit, destroyed by poor design (bare cables in a working joint) |
