Hey group

I've tried searching for an answer to my question with no luck - when will a USA carrier sell the P800? I have heard that T-Mobile might...but WHEN? It has been bloody long enough! Surely now that there is talk of a P900/P810 a USA carrier will sell the damn P800...Any info, anyone?!

Cheers!

About 3 months ago, you could buy a p800 with T-Mobile activation through Amazon for $499. That lasted about two weeks as I recall. The p800 has since been listed on Amazon as "Out of Stock or Discontinued."

Interestingly, the t610 became available on T-Mo today... I'm thinking about getting one (I can always use a backup for my p800!)

Naar is Right.
I did purchase my phone directly from SE web site, and then I took the my AT&T sim plugged it in and OOPLA, I got it working. Now I am in EU, and have a Vodafone card and works like a charm.
I recommend buying one unlocked phone (if possible). NO more hassles.
Still, I do not know if AT&T will support me in any way, probably not.

I guess everybody heard that Nov 1st we can keep the same cell numbers (in US at least), but if your phone is locked, you are out of luck.

If you are in Los Angeles, Califonia I can recommend some stores that have had the phone for over 6 months.

I bought mine directly from SE here in the US. I use it one Cingular. Even if Cingular had offered it (very unlikely given their poor phone selection) I still would have wanted to buy an unlocked one.

With a phone like this I want the freedom to be able to take it to another network. Remember that in Nov legislation comes in to effect here that'll allow you to move to another service provider while keeping your old number.

Hey all

Thanks for the replies so quickly:) I would like to get the phone through a cellular carrier so that I can get a discount on it - I figure I would save at least $200 or so vs. buying it direct through SE. I heard rumours that T-Mobile was going to carry the phone - can anyone confirm this - and if so - when???

Cheers,

I bought mine for a phone dealer in Dallas. They sell all carriers and when they activate a phone they get a kick back from the carrier. I hagled with the manager a little and she passed on some of the savings to me. About 2 months ago I got the phone for $520 USD + tax and gave me a free car charger. Her normal selling price was $635. So I imagine the kick back they get is pretty substantial that she lowered the price quite a bit...

I waited a couple months for a carrier in the US to offer the p800 and nearly went crazy getting frustrated by all the "next month so-and-so will be selling the p800 for $250 with activation" rumors. Untimately, I went and signed on with tMobile, got a free phone to use as a back-up and alternative, and bought the p800 from the SE website. I certainly recommend this option - it'll cost you extra bucks, but in my experience having that backup phone (I chose the smallest one available) that I can slip in my pocket to go to a ballgame or an outdoor event is EXCELLENT. The p800 is THE BOMB (so stop waiting and buy it!) but it's form factor is not good in all situations. As an aside, I've noticed that the reception on the p800 isn't as good as the cheap little motorola I got for free...

Anyway, just go out and get it man! If you're hesitating based on $200 then you might want to get a cheaper phone - 'cause it'll drive you batty worrying about dropping / scratching / losing / sitting on / looking funny at your p800 beauty!
