The new one wont be called the SPV,it'll be called the E100 or E1000.Cant remember which but was told it has same Software as SPV with a diff look, possibly more rounded edges!

I got the new version last week, it's called the SPV E100 on the Orange Network, but it's no longer exclusive to Orange. I got one from PPCW.net where they sell it under the i-Mate brand.
The major differences to the original SPV are the screen and tweaks to the form factor. The buttons have been made larger and the D-Pad is gone in favour of a Joystick. Other than the new screen it's the same hardware and OS underneath.
The screen is vivid and bright in all conditions, using a transflective display with 65k colours (as used in the more recent iPAQs ranges).
And the standard SD card expansion is great - just slipped in a 265MB SD card and had hours of music to hand. 512MB cards are starting to hit reasonable prices too, cheapest one so far I've seen was about $125.
Here's a shot up next to some other smartphones:

the spv e100 aka tanager aka smart amazing phone, is what we have here in the philippines for months now. the newer model which will be released soon is the spv 2 aka voyager, which has an integrated camera, bluetooth and microsoft smartphone 2003 operating system. |

i suppose it depends on your definition of new - Orange only released it and the i-Mate only began shipping last week - so it's new over here
the upcoming voyager model hasn't been officially announced so there have only been unconfirmed sightings of it (the rumours only began in the last week!) - to compete with the likes SE and Nokia it certainly needs an upgrade for Bluetooth and integrated camera to at least put it on the same playing field for standard hardware in a smartphone
as you say it is should be running MS Smartphone 2003 (or as they are rebranding their portable/handheld OS, more likely Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone
this is the thinking behind why T-Mobile (USA) dropped their plans to offer the Tanager, waiting for the new OS to be delivered, and O2 Asia recently announced they were going to be waiting also
some people are saying November, *but* that's slated for the release of the new OS - and we all know how long it takes the operators to test the software of the handsets - and with this being the first iteration of the new OS it's not clear when handsets will be delivered into your hand - particulalry the SIM-free non-exclusive models...
having said that MS have been getting a number of Asian manufacturers interested in the platform, so it should bode well for the availability of handsets (currently there are only 3 manufacturers with production units, and one of those is only available in a development kit)

i was well impressed with the improvements they achieved with a bit of a redesign over the last handset, the original SPV was a little T68i like to-small-for-some, the best thing is the screen, crisp, clear and bright
anyone who has used a Pocket PC should get to grips with it pretty quickly, and it's seamless integration (through ActiveSync) with Outlook is great, certailly easier than the P800 was to get syncing initially!
i got it mainly to get to grips with the Smartphone OS and see what it can do, i'd still use the P800 as the main workhourse on a day-to-day basis, but the MS Smartphone is a pretty impressive package...

Geekzone had a peek at the new OS (running on the Tanager), but no word on the new model.

And here's where the story on the new model (Voyager) began.
