Expert Help Needed!! - Could be End of my P800? |

I bought my P800 a few months ago second hand all boxed and practically brand new. Only problem was it was locked on orange so I had it unlocked so I could use it with the vodafone SIM I've got.
However... Now, a few months of loving he phone, it's decided to not turn on anymore - Every time I switch it on I get the "Disk Full" error and the logo screen is just left on where I can't go any further.
So.. I heard this was a problem that has happened to a few ppl on here so I just thought I needed my phone upgraded from the original R1D to R2F to solve the prob.
But... When i tried to take it to the Car Phone WH they said that if u try to update teh firmware in an orange branded Unlocked phone, the phone would simlpy be killed (left a dead piece of plastic) as the chips inside the phone know that its been unlocked when they flash it and so kill it off.
I don't quite think this is true from the posts I've read here b4. I thought when an orange phone is unlocked the orange branding is just back and u then need to get it unlocked again. Ive also heard that sometimes the orange stuff isn't put back on at all ... and I've also heard that changing the faceplace for one without the orange logo and removing the software branding (startup vids n stuff) means that they can't even tell.
So please help me....
Is my phone dead or is this just carphone WH's way of sayin 'we don't touch dodgy orange phones'??? Or maybe if I don't tell them its unlocked will they do it for me anyway and it'll just come back unlocked.
Is there somewhere else I could have it unlocked? I've heard of MoCo in Hayes (I live near Hayes but am in Scotland at the moment) - could thy help me?
Really need my phone up and running again - HELP PLZ!!
Thank everyone in advance....

Im afraid i dont think there is a definately true answer on this as I have seen people with Orange phones come back from flashing them and they're locked again.
However - I don't think this is the way it should be, and is almost as if the people at the flash centre are under instruction by orange to return an orange unit as locked and some do do this occasionally.
I have to admit though, that this is pretty darn unlikely and that if you go and get yours upgraded with non-orange flips on it you're more likely to just get it back as normal - without any orange startup or other crap on it either.
In your situation where the thing is dead, id get it done anyway and if it comes back locked then at worst you can get it unlocked online for a tenner - i did mine a few months ago and would highly recommend it.
Plus - if you have the original unlock codes from when it was unlocked last time, if they do lock it again the same codes should work so you'll be ok.

Hey lloydcody go to a place and get it flashed you will not have any problems. Don't worry about the thing not working after flash they guys are just talking crap, if you actually take it to a non-Orange service centre and plead with the guys to load the original firmware, than you won't have to worry about orange theme or unlocking it. But like the previous poster said: just unlock it again if it comes back flashed.
Hope this helps. |

Andy, just wondered: This online unlocking, can this be done literally online - i.e pay them the money, and then they can do it over the web to the phone in the cradle?
I remember services like this for other phones and you just connected the phone to your computer via a cable, so I guess it would be the same through the cradle?
I's be interested in any links you have, cheers!

you have to buy a seperate cable im afraid - i got mine for £5 inc delivery, then the unlocking was £10.
I can highly recommend the service though - very good indeed. go to http://www.dvds2000.co.uk for the goods.. I was in a bit of a rush and had a few problems in doing it, but Colin ( dvds_2000@hotmail.com ) held my hand all the way and it worked like a charm.
The way I look at it, I have amazing insurance with Orange care, but there's no excess - so if it costs me just the unlock fee to get a replacement phone, then its cheaper than having a £25 excess on Voda or some sh*t.

I may be wrong but i think that orange care is void if sim and phone are not used together or at least a non orange sim.

which is why when i broke my screen i took my voda sim out and used it on orange for 3 days before i claimed.
hey presto - new p800 a few days later.
remember - rules are only a problem if they're enforced...
