I have a relatively old P800 (week2, 2003). After three months of use the spring that makes the flip open and close broke. I didnt drop it or anything, the flip just flopped around one day. Anyway I brought it to a servicepoint and had it changed. I was charged for the part as this was considred phusical damage and not under warranty.

I noticed that the plastic on the flip "module" (i think thats what the spring was called) on the replacement was beefed up exactly where mine cracked. I also noticed that the tabs on the side which keep the flip from touching the screen have been thickened. This broke off on my flip too (glued it back). Obviously SE has noted these weaknesses thats why they fixed it in newer productions.

Should I really have been charged for this part or should it have come under warranty?

I would write a nice letter to SE customer services together with a copy of the repair and you should get the money back.
