Hello!, yes i'm new here and yes ill probably ask alot of newbie questions.... So forgive me in advance.

My question is, is this information correct..?

----Email received after asking about getting a firmwared upgrade in New Zeland from Sony Ericsson Service Centre---

Thanks for your enquiry Chris ,
If the phone was purchased in New Zealand and a receipt is provided it will
be covered under wty if there is problem present , otherwise a software
upgrade fee is $15 + GST ($16.90) if you come directly into one of our
Walkin Centres

Normally takes 30-40 mins, as long as it is straight forward and there are
no problems. Customer MUST back up data before an upgrade though. There is
a Risk involved with all Overseas phones that a software upgrade will relock
the phone back to the Network Service Provider overseas and we will not be
able to unlock it.

Kind Regards, Megan

---

What i was wondering is if the last part is true, my t68i is a at&t model from the USA which has been simunlocked. If i get a upgrade, will it put all sim locks back on or not?... I'm hoping not.

If anyone has had any experiences with upgrading their unlocked at&t t68i to the latest firmware revision...? and if it placed simlocks back on..?

Current phone firmware information can be provided if it would help.

Thanks alot!,

Long time reader.. First time poster

Mixin answered correctly an upgrade does not unlock a phone, nor can it relock the phone.

It seems that only i have this relocking problem so here goes:

My phone relocks everytime i update the FW using the SE support and people here in the forums and my friends says that once it's unlocked, it stays unlocked. Another strange thing is my organizer software wasn't updated at all. My the new version should be R3A02, according to SE website, but i still get R3A04 even if i insert the right sim.

I will never update my FW again after i unlock my phone after this experience.
