I will try to keep the list below updated with new suggestions by editing this message once in a while.

Updated Apr 27, 2002

Help make this a more valuable thread by posting your experiences.

I know that this kind of info is strewn all about this forum and other forums on the web. However, I'm hoping we can consolidate information about public wap gateways in this thread!

I have been having a really hard time finding a public wap gateway that works... So any info you all can provide will not only help me, but I'm sure will help others in this situation.

Below is a list of all the public wap gateways I have been able to find so far. Please post your findings about these and any other gateways you might know about. It would be very helpful if you only post settings for gateways you know exist at post time. Also let us know what your experience is with using that gateway. Does it work for you? Any special considerations? Do you have any other specific knowledge about the gateway? Please don't post settings for gateways you "heard about from your girfriend's sister" and aren't quite sure it works, or even exits...

Thanks arnoldc! I just tried the Ericsson developer gateway again and got it to work perfectly. Maybe adding a DNS entry to my ISP account made some difference...

markymark - I haven't tried your BT Cellnet settings yet, but will let the group know if it works for me or not.

By the way, I am in Southern California, USA and use Cingular (no choice at the moment for GSM).

Keep 'em coming!

I can get color images with the waptunnel gateway. They just started supporting color recently, like in the last month.

markymark - I tried your BT Cellnet settings last night and found that it works great! Thanks for the contribution to the list!

gomichaelkgo - I thought that WapTunnel was supposed to support color images as well, I just have not had success in getting the color images to show up... I will try again and let the group know what I find. Thanks!

Exactly - may be 3 week ago WapTunel worked with color pictures, but not now!
Usually I use Ericsson gateway, because I have access to it with internet APN, not with wap APN. My operator has 10 times higher rates for GPRS wap than for internet

cadcad - Public Wap Gateways allow you to browse wap sites without having to use the wap gateway provided by your carrier. Often, the wap gateways from major carriers are not set up to allow users to go to all sites or might have features missing (such as not allowing color images). With a public gateway, you can use a data account to connect to your own ISP and use that public wap gateway to access more sites with more features.

rjcism - To set up your T68 to use Cingular's My Wireless Window service go to:

http://www.slriv.com/t39mvsCingular.html

The directions there worked perfectly for me. If you want to set up wap using a public gatway, make a new data setting, but use the phone number and settings for your own ISP. Then create a new wap setting and use one of the public gateways above. The Ericsson developer gateway is a good choice.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

I updated the original post again to reflect the fact that I can no longer make the Ericsson developer gateway work... Is anyone using this gateway successfully? If so, have there been any IP, Username, or Password changes recently?

Thanks!

The Ericsson developer works again! I think this is a case where my results will probably keep flip-flopping, so I will assume this gateway works most of the time and will only update the status if I find that it does not work for an extended period of time...
