Windows 95 and recieving file via Infrared |

Hi,
I am 'boring' a laptop from my Dad's work and have a T300. I can send files alright (using SendFile) but I want to send my pictures I took with my MCA-25 to the laptop. When I try to send (both Irdas activated, tried ALL connections speeds on laptop) the phone just says 'No device found, Search Again?'
Any ideas?
Cheers |

The mCA-25 does not have IR. You have to transfer the pictures into the T300 and then send them from there.

@masseur, I think he knows that :-D
I'd get Windows XP as soon as possible. It has great iRDa support, never had problems with this (I've also got a T300).

yeah it was just the way it sounded, like he was putting the cam next to the IR! so I thought I would make it totally clear.
I'm not sure that going to the expense of upgrading to XP is worth it though just to transfer pics!
Also XP might have great IR support but my last 2 Sony Vaio don't have IR ports at all and I had to buy an adaptor. Never could understand why Sony stopped putting them on the R600 and V505AP.
Anyway none of this helps djpowelly so he should give us a bit more info if, as my sig says, I was mistaken!

These 'get XP' replies are so useless. Why would anyone upgrade their OS just for IR? And anyway, XP is shite - designed for kiddies and mums. That isn't open for discussion; if you want a decent OS, use Win2K.
I assume that the IR is built into the laptop? If so then go into the BIOS and change the communication to half-duplex rather than full-duplex.
Next you need to go to wireless devices in 95 and change the communication speed to 9600 baud.
Finally, if it still isn't working have a look at the manufacturers site and check for any driver updates.
Regards,
Phil.

phil.n, IR itself seems to be working because he said he could transfer files already, its just pictures from the cam that he is having problems with.
hopefully he/she will come back with more info...

My interpretation was that he is able to send things from his laptop to his phone but could not send from his phone to his laptop.
Like you say though, I'm sure he will confirm what his problem is...

@masseur yes but sometimes it wont find it if the IR is in full duplex as the laptop is wanting a return signal from the phone to say its there. but in half duplex the communication is only one way therfore it works better sometimes. altho if u wanted to send summat fromt eh phone then back to the phone you would need to disconnect the ir communication and reconnect it. so what Phil.n said is actually right altho i dunno if it worked. |

@phil.n, he you really want a decent OS, get Linux, it's the only one that's 100% customizable. And in my modest opinion, there's nothing wrong with Windows XP :-l Greetzz

phil.n and warrmr, my appologies as you are both correct. It was I who misundertsood the direction that he already has the IR working.
I hope he got it sorted!

Sorry I havent replied!
anyway, i HAVE sent the pictures from the camera to the phone, then sent it via infrared and then it gives the error. Cheers for all of the replies, I have now got myself a IR port for my desktop PC (as of 35 minutes ago!) so i can now send the pictures. BTW, windows 98 is the best os coz of the game support!
Thanks again! |
