Just an observation, but anyone notice that the back of the keypad doesn't have the pins that press on the touchscreen? What's the significance of this? Will the keypad not be removable you think? To be honest, the phone's screen doesn't look like it was meant to be in a permanent FO mode, like something is missing, unlike the P800 with smooth edges.

Anyone with unofficial "official" information?

Dissapointing as it seems from the released pictures it appears to be a non removable flip. It'll flip down temporarily though like that other phone. I hope they throw in a flip off feature in the actual release. I bet those surveys you get asked whilst on SE home page were too get info for this phone so i blame the little girls who kept the flip on to protect the screen. [addsig]

is there any point in having touch screen if they only go and leave the flip rendering it pretty much useless?

perhaps these are folk walking around with the flip open making people think the P800 such a brick?

I removed the flip 10 minutes after taking the phone out of the box and have never put it back, never will either. I would seriously not buy the p810 if the flip couldn't be removed.

I'll try to get more info about this and let you know what I find.

The p810 HAS a touch screen AND a virtual keypad for use with the flip removed, the reason the p810 flip sends the information to the phone in a "Hard wired" way is because SE had far too many problems with the pins that touch the screen on the p800, firstly when lots of pressure is put on the p800 keypad, its the pins that crack the screen, also people were taking the phones back with a screen that simply needs calibrating.
The "pins on screen" system was always a nasty part of the design & SE have changed it, otherwise it will have the same flip on/flip off options as your p800.

This info is my personal view based on all i have read & is not from an official source.

One of which is that when you're talking on the phone with it held to your face, it often falsely believes you've pressed a key and sends a tone.

well, I wldnt care much if it is detacheable or not
the only reason I took it off my P800 is cuz it made it look so ugly and fat!
not cuz it was inconvenient
I'd rather use the flip to dial then my fingers/stylus on the screen

I'm a flip man myself - I think the phone looks more like a phone with a keypad - plus I haven't got any finger nail because I chew them all the time. I find the phone almost impossible to use without the stylus or flip.

The flip DOES NOT COME OFF.

Absolutely 100% confirmed.

It will be of such a quality it doesn't need to.

I think the P810 looks rad with the keypad on. And since it's thinner people won't laugh as much at you when using the flip. The reason why I'm going to keep the flip on when I get a P810 is that I am 98% sure that it will have T9. Perfect for writing messages while on the move. Handwriting recognition is more suitable when you're sitting down.
