Don't know if this is a stupid question... Why has Ericsson used the gif format for the background pics instead of the compressed jpg? Seems a bit stupid but i guess it is done for a reason...

because the T68 can only display 256 colors, so JPEG format will be useless.

On the T68i you can use both jpg:s and gifs as background images.

With risk of sounding really ignorant i still don't get it... jpg files are smaller so it should be possible to get more decent images under 3k, eventhough they are just 256 colours. (on T68m that is)

Not quite true. It depends on the image motive. Many images will be quite smaller in GIF format than JPEG files.

If you can use jpgs on the T68i, will you be able to use them on the T68 with the firmware upgrade (when it comes out)?

Ok, didn't know that. The images i have uploaded have always been smaller in jpg format than gif.

Anyway, thanks for the answer.

I don't think you can use the jpg as a background on the T68i but the T68i will accept and store a jpeg.

@ Flower : For web-usage and pictures in lowres and not so many colours, GIF will be the best choice. Only in highresolution and lotsa of coulours, jpg is the best.

Alright, then I know the reason. Thanx nickling...
T68i can manage jpg files, does anyone know if they can be used as backgrounds?
If so, will that be possible for T68m with the coming sw? Or will larger file sizes than 3k be ok for backgrounds? (I know there are only speculations about the sw update but still...)

@minix: Animated gif images will work as screensavers in the T68i.....dunno about the size limitations though!
