My upgrade time is round the corner and I have had my heart set on the P800 for a while now....but then I discover P810 might be released and I would prefer a 65k screen rather then just over 4k, however I have no idea what the P810 looks like. Now do I : -

A) Get the P800 for the time being
B) Get another phone (like T610) and await the P810
C) any other suggestions ?

P800 owners plz help

My advice is not to wait. I love my P800 and if I hadn't bought it a month ago I'd buy one today. You can't wait for the next thing to come along unless it's really imminent.

I bought a computer knowing a faster one would soon arrive. I bought a PS2 and an Xbox knowing all three would be old within a couple of years. Before that I bought a PS1 and N64 knowing the same thing. It's not because I never learn. It's because if I'll wait for the ultimate gizmo to come out I'll die without having enjoyed any of the gadgets that enrich my life.

I agree, if you wait for something that at the moment isn't even properly confirmed to exist then by the time it is available there will be something else even better around the corner and you will start waiting again, having nothing in the mean time. The way to go is get the best of what's available (the P800 that is) then when something better comes along find someone to buy your old stuff and use that money to offset the price of your new gadget, and then the circle of technology begins again. There will always be people around that will buy your 1 year old device. I get people asking me all the time why I spend so much money on my phone, gadgets, tv, home theatre etc- it's coz thats what interests me and thats what I want. Don't wait: Grab a P800 now!

Just to make a point, when a device has a 65,000 screen it means that it is capable of displaying 65,000 colours, it DOESNT mean that you always see a better picture than on a 4000 colour screen because if the image your looking at only has 30 colours then it will look exactly the same on a 256 or a 4000 or a 65,000.

Its not 65,000 pixels which would realy make a serious difference.
I had an ipaq a while ago which is 65,000 screen & i can honestly say that my p800 has EXACTLY the same image quality for almost ALL web pages & pictures (it has about the same amount of pixels in each square centimeter as the ipaq) so if your waiting for 65,000 thinking it will be 16 times better than 4000 then you will have shock.

You may be well aware of this but it might interest people who don't understand.
Its very unlikely a 65,000 screen will make much difference, YES a 256 (t68i) screen is not nearly as good as a 4000(p800) screen but you dont get that same jump in quality going up to a 65,000.

Ha, ha! I bet ya, when you are about to buy the P810, a P820 will be around the corner. It will have a CCD instead of the crappy CMOS camera and 2 megapixels!

...And when the P820 is out, the P830 will be announced. It will have 3 megapixels, a 128mb built-in flash memory, and a bluetooth with 100 meter range!

...And when the P830 is out, the P900 will be announced. It will have a smaller form factor, 5 megapixels CCD, 256mb memory blah, blah, blah...

Get the P800!

@LastQuark

CMOS imagers are not necessarily crappy any more. Take for example the 6.3Mpixel Canon EOS-10D. That takes excellent pictures and uses a CMOS sensor.

The problem with mobile phone cameras is they are driven by soley by price. They use tiny pixels so the signal to noise is terrible. Also the lenses are very slow (so let little light in). Finally because they are package in to a tiny module and next to RF circuitry, keeping the noise levels down would be very difficult.

My advice(because I love having the latest): Buy a gadget when it's brand new.
Don't wait a "few" months for the price to drop.

Right now... I'd buy a t610 and wait for p810.
Because if se can deliver we are about halfway into the p800s lifespan(As the greatest).
It will naturally be a good second for a while too...

@Coramoor, gave the best advice, 6months is a long time in mobiles & a good example is the p800 is still exactly the same price now as it was when i got mine in January.
My technique is to buy my chossen phone as soon as i can get one after its release, then sell it for not much less while its still current to someone whos been stuck with a crappy phone they hate on a contract.
When i buy my p810 it will be about a year after i bought my p800.
I could not go back to a small non smartphone, although with 3G now here, i wont want to pay much for a GSM phone in 6 months time.
Reminder; milk, sugar, crisps, post letter.

What a piece of junk. It doesn't even have a flexible organic LED display! Huh!

(Just teasing the people who want to keep on waiting. Within the next few years lower power, higher contrast OLEDs will start to replace backlit LCD in phones. Eventually these will be made on flexible substrates, so the could even be unrolled!)
