there is one type of memory stick duo.
but different sizes: 16mb, 32mb, 64mb and 128mb.
maybe a 256mb, but who knows.....
the p800 only supports upto 128mb anyway

I think what Plv means is the magicgate version.
Hey Plv don't worry all the current MS Duo's are compatible with P800 namely normal purlple one's and the white magicgate one's the only dif is that the magicgate ones security feature doesn't work with p800 but believe me you don't need it or want it on your p800 hope this helps, if you are looking for some p800er.com is a good place to start. But you could get them cheaper on the streets of Hong Kong.
Hope this helps.

Also, the P800 does most likely support 256 MB DUO's... There have been alot of discussions on this in previous posts, and the concensus was that it did work (believe someone actually tried). |

He he he ... actualy ... no the P800 has support for as much as you can cram in there ... because i have seen people use regular memory sticks with 512MB and 1GB storage capacity on them ... well if someone could direct me to a place where i could get my hand onto a 1gig stick ... i would more than happy to port it ont the P800 ... ... ... !!!
and allso there has been talk from SONY to introduce MemorySticks with over 12GB of memory ... as well as Duos with 1GB ... so why leave out the P800 by limiting the MEMORY additions capable for it ... ??? but these MEMORY STICKS will not see the light of day for at least 3 - 6 years ... !!! By then we will all be using different phones ... !!! ... !!! so wahat is the use ... ??? |

what the hell does "port a 1gb stick onto p800" mean??
anyhow what you and others have said is basically true. i dont have a 256mb duo but there appears to be no limitations since the 512mb regular MS works with the jacket.
and just for a little salivation: my dad works with some people at Matsushita and it looks like SD is going to hit the 1 terabite range in the next 10 moths so sony typically follows suit. course we will be on to a different phone by the time this is affordable or available.

Well you may have seen memory sticks with 512MB and 1GB in a p800 but itould never recognize it because memory sticks are only 16MB-256MB (256MB with switch mode) 512MB and 1GB are pro versions and couldn't go into the phone (probably in size matter yes but not usable)
I think if you plug a pro ms into a p800 its like plugin a mmc or sd card into it (plug&don't play)
I may have this wrong but who the hell try it (I ain't stupid to plug a ms pro into a p800) |

There seems to be a shortage of the MS Duo range everywhere at the moment. |

The Pro memory stick SHOULD work and if they dont then you just need to install a patch so it is compatable. I read it on sonys web site about 6 months ago, saying that old models wont support the New Pro format but if it is possible to install a patch on that device there will be one, examples of what is not possible is, TV, Cam recorders, Stereo for cars,...etc because you can not alter the operating system. However they said teh celio(cant spell this one, sonys pda) and etc devices will have patches to be made so they will support it.
And come on, if you think sony would make something that wont support it, WHY??? If it does then they make more money!!!! It is not a hardware problem a software upgrade!!! |

Memorystick pro wont work on anything unless it says pro because it has more strips then the other memory sticks (the metal strips underneath)

I think you are a little wrong there. I am not 100% sure But I would make a bet on it.
How can they be different and have different amount of metal connectors if the new sony camara's take both sticks when they thay are the same size??

It is correct that only recent product that are engineered for PRO will be able to accept PRO. I cannot find the Sony site where I read the technical differences a while back but I did find Sony's own compatibility list. Some vaios for example need a software update to make the PRO work but older model just won't work.
Memory Stick PRO was developed by Sony and Sandisk and here is SANdisks page about compatibility where it states
"Important Note: Memory Stick PRO is only compatible to Memory Stick PRO enabled devices. Please check our Product Compatibility page for these specific Memory Stick PRO enabled devices."
