Had the same problem last week but with a T39. My only solution after going to Smartnet and pleading with the Ericsson Main Office was to switch phones with my mom who doesnt use T9. From what they're telling me, it's more than just software.

Oh, Sonyericsson replied to my same question today....

To whom it may concern,

Thank You for contacting Sony Ericsson contact center on the World Wide Web.

This is regarding your inquiry concerning the Ericsson
mobile phone model T39mc. We regret to inform you that we don't have the firmware upgrade for your unit because first of all we didn't have this kind of model here in the country, we didn't sell this particular unit here in the Philippines. It has a different hardware comparing from the T39m so our firmware versions here is not compatible with the T39mc.

Thank You for your iqnuiry should you have any other qeustions or need further information. Please feel free to contact us at:

SONY ERICSSON MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS
7/F Octagon Bldg., San Miguel Ave.,
Ortigas Center, Pasig City
Tel : 635-1860 to 61
Fax : 637-2533

e-mail : mobile.helpdesk@enp.ericsson.se

Best Regards,
PHILIPPINES HELPDESK

Anyway, I hope you can do it with a T68. good luck!

@jhermano,

don't know about T39, but during our EB i was showing the guys my temporary T68mc loaded with R2B, Latin 1 which has English T9. so for the T68mc, definitely yes.

Arnold:
1. What is Latin 1? I've read that there is Latin 2 and 3 also.
2. How different is R2B compared to R2A? R2A is kind of slow, esp when opening the Inbox, any improvement on this?
Thanks.

@Helix617,

Latin 1 has support for English, Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia languages only. The main reason we want this is because of font consistency in menus, lists, etc. I can't comment on R2A becuase I never upgraded my phone to that version. I did a R1B -> R1C -> R2B upgrade.

@arnoldc,

Ok. So I can have my T68mc converted to T68m to have T9 capability at Smartnet? How much do they charge because my phone has no warranty? Do I have to talk to a particular person or I can just approach anyone there?

Thanks!

I got 2 mc's upgraded at sony-ericsson north edsa free of charge yesterday. The latest version is r7a013 which comes in two language packs, Chinese (the one with inconsistent font sizes) and Bahasa (the one without wuziqi).

I just wanted the users to know that its free of charge (even non-warranty units) and the employees were as polite as the people at smartnet and semicon sm manila.

Good day! [addsig]
