I'm looking at purchasing a p800 to replace my current PDA which I sync with Outlook. Two questions:

1. The user manual suggests that tasks do not have a start date. I need this since I have tasks that are only relevant after a future date (and therefore are not listed in the task list until that date). If not, is there any way around this?

2. My items in Outlook are grouped by category - does the P800 support this?

1) Can't set a start date only a date to complete, not sure how to get around this , maybe 3rd party software but I am not aware of any.

2) you can set categories such as personal and business etc in the p800 but when I sync this is sometimes lost. Not very reliable.

For what it's worth, I've spoken once or twice Lee at Iambic Software, home of the fabulous Agendus (was ActionNames Datebook) PIM for the Palm. I've been a user of that app forever, and it's the only app I miss on the P800.

Happily, the response was good:

###

We definitely going to do it.. How long it will take, we don't know. I have
already used some primitive form of the program on my p800.

This is a brilliant application, and I think it'll do much of what you want out of a PIM, if not more, since it was borne of the Newton years back and then moved to Palm...meaning, it's teriffically mature.

It'll eat most Symbian apps alive. hee hee!

That is just the news that I have been waiting for! I used (and registered) ActionNames when I used a Palm device. I needed to switch to a pocket PC for the last year or so, so I used another great PIM called PocketInformant.

When I picked up the P800 and decided to sell my pocket PC I asked the guy that wrote PI about doing a version for the P800, and he told me that they had not looked at it, and if they decided to do it, it would take at least a year!

I have been totally disapointed with the PIM functions of the Palm, PocketPC, and now the P800, so I hope they get this finished asap! Or at least let me beta test early versions!

ActionNames (which I registered, too BTW was/is the best ever PIM app for the PalmOS. I also wrote to the guys from IAMBIC for pushing them to SymbianOS - the customer potential is enormous.

They (and any other s/w manufacturer) could even make this app licensing mechanism smarter - by sending SMSs or GPRS connection to a license database every here and there - to make sure there is no illegal stuff outta there...!
