Anyone have any IRC or MSN clients for the T610 that works?

I have tried QSM and VIRC from midlet.org, but they both error.
I believe it perhaps has to do with my GPRS connection, since it doesnt seem to try to go online on the GPRS network!

I have tried to download some mail on my phone and then try to go online with IRC or MSN afterwards, but once I leave the mailprogram on T610 the GPRS connection shuts down.
Is there any way to keep the connection alive?

Tips are appreciated!

Great phone!

You can't run internet applications on t610, it does not support socket://. So unless SE decides to implement MIDP 2, or the raw socket in an updated firmware there will be no possibility for IRC/ICQ/Whatever java app that wants to use internet via sockets

SE are developing AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) for the T610. Where you can add buddy, accept IMs, see online buddies, offline buddies etc...
I think it was just not ready for the very first release of the T610.
Or it maybe its only working for t-mobile in the US, dunno!

really have tested if this application works on T610
though I seen ppl say it works on P800.

Take a look at this thread http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=30904&forum=2 Talks about the JAVA (in)abilities of the T610, and how you can't run apps that use sockets on it (such as tipicme).

Actually I think it would be possible to code some kind of Instant Messanger that uses http to connect to a proxy on a server which then "converts" (can't think of a better word right now) http requests etc to sockets.

Or am I wrong about this? So instead of coding just the IM one needs to code a proxy too.

It would be too inefficient to use http:// proxy. The proxy will not be able to PUSH data to the phone, so basically the phone has to check with proxy all the time. Plus there is a lot of traffic overhead.

This is not true. Isn't Webviewer a internet application? I use it all the time...

Internet viewer uses 'http:/', not 'socket://' Like I mentioned in another thread, T610 has http:// capability for JAVA, but http:/ capability in itself is extremely limited. Internet applications other then browsers (the ones that require opening and maintaining connection to different ports/communicate with different services) need 'socket:/' implementation, and that is precisely what T610 does not have
