sony clie 615 & t68 sms problem |

I had sort of post this problem in other discussion under "PDA" but I thought i might as well get people attention to this problem i had because the "PDA" forum is a bit of old discussion and mainly on Palm.
I finally ditch my M505 for Sony CLie 615 due to various reasons. It was horrible to find out after the purchase that apparently the 615 does not support SMS. While M505 has a "phone" set up which basically tell M505 which GSM phone you are using (of course you need to install the driver. In my case, i install T39 driver which work fine with T68) so that M505 can locate the drive whenever it is performing SMS. The "phone" set up is missing in Clie 615 and I can't get the SMS application to work. Nevertheless, i have no problem is using T68 as modem for my e-mail and surfing in 615 with GPRS connection. Can someone has the same expirience help me. |

try downloading these phone files for the palm. I found them on a Clie message board on Yahoo.

2 questions:
First: Can you tell me how you succeeded connecting your T615 to your T68? I have yet to connect my T615 to my T39 (despite endless emails to Voicestream support and serious browsing here).
Second: Can you tell me what these phone files from nXtClie do? Are they only for SMS? Or do they contain drivers for connecting to the T39?

sorry i didn't notice your post in the "old" pda thread. but the bottomline here is that despite being mostly Palm users, your sony still runs on palmOS. so the difference is really not that much.
@drad
i assume that you can browse thru WAP in your phone via GPRS? so that eliminates the possiblity that the service is not available in the area, or you not having access to the service. |

you assume correctly. as best I can tell, I am having one of two problems.
either:
(1) there's something wrong at the Voicestream end that fails to recognize my phone and record it on the network; or
(2) my SIMM card is defective.
eventhough I can WAP browse on the phone, I often have to shut it off, dial the service number so their network recognizes my phone again, and only then am able to log into their gateway.
definitely not good service, wouldn't you say? |

Personally, i think it's not a SIM card problem. Once a SIM card is defective, you can't do anything about it, not even make calls and stuff.
If you browse in your phone without any problem, then the issue with be in the PDA settings.
But since you said that there are times that you have to reset the phone so your phone gets recognized tells me that it's likely a network-related problem. Have you tried clearing your cache (phone's and PDA's)? Sometimes, it does wonders  |

Tried the cache clear. No difference. Replaced the SIM card. No difference. (You were right about that.)
Which leaves the network -- something I have the least control over. Not happy about that, but will see what I can do with Voicestream.

read some posts about voicestream, and there were some recommendations that you should contact them directly for the correct settings.
it seems that they don't publish out the settings. try to do a search of the local posts to see what i mean. |

update: best i can tell it's the voicestream gateway that's the problem. tried some of the public gateways posted here in the forum and the wap browser works much better. (I can get to esato, at least; downloaded a background today.)
