Hey all...(excuse my bad english)
Just wanted to tell you guys what happened when i bought my p800. Beeing tired of t68i, i wanted a change, and decided after reading the boards here at esato, for buying the p800. I went to my local SE dealer (elkjøp, stavanger, Norway) and bought it for 8000nkr (guess thats aprox. 1600 usd). Flying on pink clouds i got home just to discover that my SE p800 was blocked. Telephone lock (telefonlås) or something it said. After trying numerous number combinations i decided to go back the next day. The next day i went back and got a new one without too much fuzz. And drove back home again. It worked fine , and i started downloading programs and pictuers etc. for it and had a blast. The next day when i woke up next to my new found love i went at it again (hehe). But suddenly it wouldn`t change from open/closed flip mode. The thing that had happened was that the litle button/switch, that lies on the right side, on the bottom of the phone (under the flip, the thing that holds the flip) was loose. BAH! I went back to the store and they told me that this was a damage caused by the owner, and it had to be taken in and fixed. ok.... ETA: 3 weeks!!!! My p800 was 3 days old now! Well i had no other option than to let them have a go at fixing it. Luckly ( I thought) I had signed an extra insurance in the store to prevent me from having this kind of trouble. I asked the gentleman in the store if there was something he could do, since i had the insurance and everything. Yes there was, he could lend me a phone. Ok, that sounds good. The bad thing was that the cellular he would let me borrow was an old panasonic with no color, grotesque menu system, 15 hours standby etc. "But, but, but i have a p800, i bought a p800 because i wanted a p800, not a panasonic". This is what he told me: "WELL, THE PHONE IS JUST FOR CALLING! AND THE PANASONIC DOES THAT JUST AS WELL AS YOUR P800 OR WHATEVER!" I felt my blood starting to boil and the vains in my forehead bulge out ready to explode, I knew I had to get the f##k out of there, `cause me starting a fight with the shop attendant would get me nowhere. I waited my 3 weeks and got my p800 back yesterday. The good thing about all this was that I got the upgraded firmware (software?), and im loving it!!!

The f**kface in the store would have pissed me off real good. I'd demand a new phone and would refuse to leave without one. That small button could only be damaged if you had driven a nail/knife or anything else which is pointy! Or whatever. So he just didn't want to give you a third new phone. Bet you that SE didnt fix your old but replaced it with a new one.

First of all:
don't, I repeat DON'T, buy your phones at Elkjøp! I bet you could have bought it cheaper at a real mobile phone dealer, and get a lot better service...
Second:
8000 NOK is NOT 1600 USD... 1 USD is approx. 6,88 NOK
Third:
P800 is a really great phone! I love it!
Fourth:
Hope you won't experience any more trouble...

Bleh, you paid 1600/1100USD for it (depending upon whos calculations we use).

Are you insane? £400-450 SIM free in UK = very roughly $675. Any particular reason you wanted to pay double the price of the most rip-off country on earth, or am i missing something?

EDIT: Yup, Xe.com says 8000NOK = GBP£693. Barmy!

Jeez 1600 bucks is some serious dinero. Cool phone, but I woulda bought a ticket to New York, had a nice meal uptown, stayed in a decent hotel and picked up a p800 on my way back to the airport..

Prolly woulda have cost less.

But sucks about your problem. Never had a consumer problem that severe - is there a lot of availability in Stavanger or do they have a lock on retail? Maybe you could go straight to SE and tell them one of their distributors is ramming you good?

Bricks through windows at night do wonders as well.

ok... heheeh
8000 NKR equals
1,157.16 USD or
692.105 GBP

Thats the price for the phone without subscription to any telecom operator. With sim/subscription the price would be half what i payed, but you`ll end up paying aprox. the same in montly fees.

The price was not the important point, the service was....

Well that's more in the ballpark - I paid about 700 us for mine. I understand Scandanavia is more expensive.

I've been fortunate in that I haven't had to call in service - the phone has been solid. I don't even get the service point OS 'upgrades' for fear they will wreck more havoc than add benefits.

It seems like service generally for consumer high-tech is getting worse - costs them a lot of $$ to service you after unloading their product on you. Frustrating, but they're looking at their (already skimpy) profits.

That's still £300 more than SIM free over here (i.e. same way you got it, without any contract).

Fair enough if the price doesn't matter to you- but next time you're buying a phone, let me know eh? I'll happily charge you retail +100% if that's what you want!!

Elkjøp is not a bad place to buy this phone...
Not because they're so cheap.. But because of the insurance they offer.
You pay about 50 usd And you're set for 3 years.. Whatever happens to your phone they'll fix or replace your phone(excluding scratches and other damages that doesn't affect the use of your phone ).
You could throw it at the wall when you want a new phone. As long as you don't lose the phone.

So you don't have to be afraid of breaking your screen pr anything...
