My brother got his software upgraded to R2f for his orange P800, this was carried out by Fleet Mobile Comms in Sidcup. Since doing so a symbol not in the handbook has appeared on screen. This symbol is a vertical handset with a red circle and a diagonal line through it. My brother is now unable to connect using GPRS, Orange and SonyEricsson proving to be of little help, both are asking that he contacts the other. Anyone else suffering the same problem with this software?

Where about on the screen is the symbol maybe its a new flight mode symbol or accepted caller symbol all of which are under phone preferences it could be the GPRS settings were lost during the flash and the symbol is a seperate issue plus Orange seems to be a bit patchy on GPRS just now

It's not flight mode, this symbol is at the top of the screen next to the internet connection icon, when the keypad is open it appears next to the message icon on the bottom row.

EDIT: Sorry, i get the red crossed-circle symbol OVER the signal indicator - thought that's what you meant, but just re-read it. My post need not apply to his situation then!

Means no service (as in not yet registered to a network tower - as opposed to no signal once it is registered) I believe - i see it when turning my phone on for just a few seconds, then it makes the '3 knocks' sound, meaning it's registering with the network, then it dissappears and is replaced with a signal indicator.

Presume that either his SIM is having problems handshaking with the network (does it work in another phone?) or the phone has problems getting the initial signal to handshake with. Possibly other meanings, like SIM barred from network etc - test that first, along with a different orange sim in the handset.
