i am using dialup on opera for surfing and i have a connection speed 9.6 kbps.how many kbps is using gprs? (i'm not using gprs cause i dont have full internet access). is it worth? for example: i'm visiting a page with many banners and considering that you are beeing charged by kb downloaded i think its better with dialup charged by time connected.
thanks

Yep, you're right...

GPRS is good for a small amount of data transferred quickly.
Dial-up is better for a larger amount of data transferred slowly.

For example, when using WAP I use GPRS, but when checking my POP email I use Dial-up out of my free minutes.

i got the same problems too. opera is slow. the speed is actually supposed to be 28.8kbps but i don't know why it's 9.6kbps. and maybe you should stop using dial-up ' coz its costly. you pay it as a call so example you use dial-up for 2 hours, and a call is 7pesos (i'm from the ph) per minute, then you pay a total of 840pesos just for that useless 2 hours. last month, my bill amounted to 7000+ pesos because of that. so it's not worth it unless you could use the gprs on opera.

@senokia
1)i will never surf the web for two hours
2)suppose you use the web for 5 minutes surf on sites like yahoo or esato etc. i) with gprs ii) with dialup. in the first case cause gprs charges by kbs of download with all these banners and pics you will pay allot more than dialup costing by time.also gprs has standard monthly cost.so i wonder and ask you m8s:is it worth it?

Dial up is very slow, goign at 9.6 at a sec, this also happens when u select hight speed at the connection options, ive seen a post before, dont know if it was on this board, but someone have told that when u put in a special string (that modems use) u can get higher speed when connect tot the provider, cant seem to find that post anymore.

Yup, i use my CSD connection most of the time - i've got full GPRS mobile internet (expensive ) but my CSD is free for the first 500minutes every month, anytime - so i do all my opera, emails & MMS over that!

Anyone got a service provider that supports HSCSD? If so how is it?

I don't think any of the primitive US providers have HSCSD yet. I avoid using my GPRS because it costs me 3 cents per kB (ie, $30 per MB) if I go over my 3MB limit.
