T39 - gprs disconnect after Mail downloaded |
Phrak Joined: Feb 27, 2002 Posts: 54 From: Sydney, Aus. PM |
Hi All,
It seems silly, but whenever I connect to my GPRS service to Wap-surf the web, then exit out of the browser back to the main menus (choosing "yes" to remain connected when it asks), then start downloading POP email, the Session is disconnected after completing the Send and Receive.
Most annoying considering i pay AU$0.20 per session!
I have searched and searched, but am unable to locate a setting where this can be disabled, (or "remain connected" enabled).
Can anyone help, or is this a service provider setting that cannot be changed?
Thanks!

Well, there is a setting to keep the gprs coneccion online.
If you go to:
Settings->Data comm->Pref. service
You get 2 options, "GPRS and GSM" and "GSM only", I guess the one selected in your phone is "GSM only". That makes the phone to connect to the gprs network ONLY when needed and then shout down the line when finnished, like when sending/receiving emails.
If you select "GPRS and GSM", then your phone will be "online" all the time without disconecting from the gprs network.

The only way to remain "online" on the GPRS-network, is when leaving a wap-session, you then push YES to stay connected.
But theres really no reason to do this, unless You're gonna check your email right after, or going back to wap later.
The phone should be put to : GPRS and GSM.
But this doesnt mean that you're connected ALL the time.
It means that the phone connects automatically to gprs whenever its possible (for e.g. wap, email).
The icon for gprs ONLY shows that gprs are "available", not that you're connected (online).
AN EXAMPLE OF THIS :
If You choose to stay online/connected after a wap-session, try to push the volume-button, it will say "GPRS ON".
If You choose to disconnect after a wap-session, then try and push the volume-button,..now it will not say anything about GPRS.
-----------------------------------
Theres no reason why the phone should be on the gprs-network (online) all the time,...because You dont use gprs when e.g. making a normal phone-call.
