no mate,
once they are downloaded onto the pc, they have let your email providers server so they then can not be downloaded from the server again onto your P800 as they are no longer on your email providers server.
if that makes sense!! |

but as i leave my computer running with outlook express always on then presumably all messages have been downloaded to my pc so i can get them on my p800. is that right?? |

Sounds like ur using POP3, this means whenever u download ur email to ur pc they r deleted from the server and they cant b viewed elsewhere. Ur options r to select the option in outlook to leave the messages on the server when u download new messages or use the IMAP protocol instead, hope this has been of help, Simon

My question for this category is: does there exist an email client that can display html email? Don't think there is...
Anyway, if you want to always have your email on your p800, just configure your desktop client (outlook) to leave messages on your server. Then they'll always be there. Or keep them in your inbox on the desktop and use remote sync on the p800 to keep the email box from your desktop up to date. The desktop machine needs to have an ip address to do this... |

You'll have the e-mails on the P800 if you syncronize the phone with your computer..
But you still won't have the e-mails Outlook Express recieves since last syncronisation!

As far as I can tell, the P800 'mirrors' whatever is on the server. So as long as you leave your stuff on the server, it will sync to the P800 when it checks mails.
In Outlook (not Outlook Express) you go to tools->email accounts->view or change existing accounts->pick your account to edit->click change->click more settings->click advanced->click box that says 'leave a copy of messages on the server' you can then pick options like for how long, etc...
Outlook Express has a similar feature..
I'm pretty sure this works - again the phone syncs what's on the server. By default, desktop mail clients (Outlook, OE) download mails and then delete the copies from the server in the interest of the user. So if you leave your desktop checking emails all day long, your p800 won't be able to find them unless you change the above options. If you delete a message on the phone and then do a send/receive, it will delete the msg from the server tho.. |

the best bet is to leave the outlook settings alone, most isp's have a limit to how much you can store in the server, and once the limit is reached new mail will be rejected..
one method would simply be not to leave outlook running when away from the pc, as what is the point? your not there you cant read it till you get back, so dont run outlook when you are out you can then access it from your mobile |

hi and thanks for all the help. just found the settings in outlook express and you are quite right. however, it has a very useful feature (for me that is) in that i can get it to delete items on the server after x days and also to delete deleted items. all of which would probably be ok for me. out of interest anyone know how many items ntlworld let you keep?? |

yes, I would hesitate turning on "leave a copy on server" unless you remember to remove them periodically as your mail will build up over time.
as stated already, best bet is to disconnet outlook express when your away from the machine, and then you can use the P800 to see what's on the server.

Try fastmail.fm
I used to be able to send and receive mail on my Psion 5mx, whereas Hotmail was useless!
goto www.fastmail.fm
