T68i IR dial up connection - too slow at 9.6 Kbps |

I am using the IR port on my T68i with my laptop to dial up and connect to the internet via Freeserve (my laptop is a Packard Bell - EasyOne Silver, running Windows XP).
When online it says that it is connected at 9.6 Kbps, which is painfully slow!
Am I right in thinking that the T68i is capable of connecting at 28.8 Kbps or something like that?
I rang my network provider (Orange) and they told me to put an AT command in the Properties for the Phone and Modem settings to initialize the modem.
The command was something like at+xxxx,16,0,1 (can't remember what the xxxx bit was) and this is suppose to set the speed to 28.8 Kbps.
This had no affect though and the connection was still at 9.6 Kbps.
Please help! Is there something I am missing?
Do I need to change a setting in the phone or on my laptop? Or is it something to do with my network provider?
I presume that the T68i will work at 28.8 Kbps?

Unless you are using HSDXX or GPRS, you will only get 9.6k/s

Sounds to me as though you have set the IR port transfer speed to 9600baud. You can crank it up to 15000 (i think) but 9600 is by far the most stable.

Phil.
