I've tried the P800 and the 7650 at the Cebit.... |

I'm back from Cebit where i've used the T68i, the P800, the Z700 and the 7650.
What i can say :
- for the T68i : i think, it's the best color phone i've tried whith a small size (betewen new panasonic G67, new Sagem MX5, new samsung ...)
It the only color phone today to be really working. Other have a lot of bugs.
It is not as faster as we could expect but it works. (but it's not slower than my actual T39)
- the P800 : very nice screen (différent from T68 and other 256 c), easy to use (some functions are sometimes strange placed), stylus is small (not even easy to write with), he's a bit large but accepteble, but for this time, it's slow and has some bugs in a lot of applications.
- the Z700 : the same screen as t68, the design of Z5 and Z7, i don't see the interest comparared to T68...
- the Nokia 7650: nice screen, nice design, really ergonomic (keypad and joystick), faster SW than P800 (for the moment), not see bugs like in the P800, easy to use. He looks not so big like P800.
Between P800 and 7650, for today use, i would prefer 7650, but when you to enter lot of information (like a PDA), P800 is better made because of the touch screen.
7650 seems ready to be out of what i see
- Nokia 7310: slow in menu and contact like T68, nice but keys at border are difficult to press and no really better screen .
- Panasonic G67 : seems to be a clone of T68, but menu was not ready to use, they put in a small soft to display some pictures and an idea of the menu, but no possibility to enter in under-menu
I think joystick is not so good as T68

The nokia 7210, i tried was a working model.
But i'm not sure they would increase the menu and other things, because these problems are similars as those on the 6210.
even if they correct this, i don't think it's an interessting model, because of the features (doesn't own a lot...like bluetooth) and the quality of the screen whitch isn't as good as on other models (P800, NEC or 7650) and the keypad which is bad to use comfortably |

I belive 7210 is just a desperat atempt from Nokia to catch up with T68

Raptor, I wouldn't believe a phone can be developped in one year only. So, I'm not sure we can call this an attempt to catch up anything. SE, Nokia, Siemens, Motorola, etc certainly had different product strategies with different timeframes, that's it. Ericsson launched a small color screen device at about the same time as Trium and after a Taiwanese manufacturer, and before the ones mentionned previously. But, before colored wireless services are actually launched (e.g. MMS), SE phone is much rather a phone with a color user-interface (Siemens had one years ago). Now, on other features such as triple band, I agree with you this is finally a good move
Besides this, what is there to "catch-up"? market share or what? For the 1st one, the catch-up is more on SE side, right? SE has lost market share in 2001 and is now behind Siemens and even Samsung with less than 5%. See for instance: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nf/20020312/bs_nf/16715
And the fact that new SE models showed up might increase this gap, and SE might unfortunately loose even more market share this year. Simply because other Ericsson phones are admittedly not selling well, SE can't meet the demand for their popular T68, and this T68 is a high-end product, not low-end. |

T65 has been a real dog for Ericsson. While the T39 and T68 have just flown off the shelves here in the UK - they disappear from stock as soon as places get them in - T65 just has not sold at all, because it _should_ be competing against the 3xxx series, as a mainstream GPRS competitor, but at £230 compared to £100 for a 3330, amuch more established brand in the low-end market, it can't compete - particularly as the Motorola T191 is now the best selling non-Nokia pre-pay phone in the UK, simply because they can compete on price. If they can ship Z700 at their quoted price of around €300-350, then they might stand a chance of taking back some market share. |
