My P800 powered my PC! |

There might be another explaination for this, but I'm pretty sure that my P800 partially powered my PC for about 10 mins tonight.
Here's what happened: I was working on my computer with my P800 in the cradle with a USB charger connected to it too. The overload protection on the power board cut out the power to my computer as I had too many appliances (including a heater on full) connected to one outlet. I reset the power board and went to restart my PC but the power light, the green light on my P800 cradle, the light on my CD drive & the light on by BT dongle were still on! I yanked out the power cord and all the lights stayed on. I don't have a UPS but I thought maybe my power supply had some kind of backup so I thought I would just wait until it ran flat. I went and got a drink then came back to my PC and all the lights were still on. I thought that I would pass the time with a little Karting so I took my P800 off the cradle..... and all the lights went off. I then powered up my PC with no problems. I had already charged my P800 today and since it was on the charger for an hour or so, it should've been close to full, but my battery was @ 11%!! The only explanation I can see is that my P800 was powering my PC but not enough for it to boot. Freaky, hu?

Wow, If it actually did this it is pretty cool!
I didn't realise that the usb or cradle could give power the other way? You sure it was just not a coincidence?
But if your power went down on your phone maybe not???
Amazing! |

WELL we know that USB on a laptop can charge a mobile FROM the laptop battery or power source .... so perhaps it is possible the other way around.
WAS the charger STILL working or was that also in the power socket that turned off? |

Your P800 was sending a small current power to the USB cuicuitry. The P800 connecter at the botom (liek all other ericssons) is capable of sending current out, as well as takign current in (like when u attache the hands free radio/MP3 player) However, this SHOULD have been isolated form the USB power, only the signal shoudl have been connected, i dunno what went wrong. If power was going "two way" then in the same vein the phoen shoudl be able to be charged via USB, which i knwo doenst happen. Let me have a look at it, then i will get back to you.
I will go home today, and check on mine.

Yes, it's true. This is what happened to me the other day:
I was reorganizing my room where I have a Apple PowerBook and a Toshiba Portege 2000 (both laptops) placed right next to eachother on my desk. The Powerbook I have connected 2 usb-hubs which need powersupply. Another usb-hub which doesnt need powersupply is connected to the Toshiba. When I was connecting everything togheter again, I by mistake connected the powersupply for the usb-hus on the powerbook on the usb-hub for the toshiba which at the time was connected to one of the two usb-ports on my toshiba. Now my toshiba is dead! Because the voltageused on the usb-hub on the toshiba was dofferent than the one connected to the powerbook.... buhu.... I need to change the motherboard on the toshiba portege which will cost me almost more than tha laptop itself, because the portege is the thinnest and smallest laptop in the world it uses spoecial motherboards and etc.
Anyway, what I wanted to say was that my laptop recieved power from my outlet through the usb-hub and short-circuted.... | |
