When I take my phone out of range of my PC, it loses the bluetooth connection. When I return, the bluetooth connection management s/w (3com) notices it has returned, but PC Suite just sits there being "Not connected". The only way to get it to re-establish the connection seems to be a reboot. I've tried unselecting the bluetooth com ports and re-selecting them, but they can never be re-selected until a reboot because they are "in-use". Anyone know how to avoid the reboot to get PC Suite to pick the phone up again?

Cheers

Surely someone must know this one If not, does anyone know how I can restart the phone monitor so it will search for the phone again? I can restart the connection monitor dialog but that doesn't help.

Cheers.

I have bluetooth built in on my laptop, so don't know if this applies to your adaptor... but the b/t software will let you do many things with the phone, so when you go out of range it cuts of connections, when you return it wants to know what u want it to do.... i.e. create a serial connection, transfer items, transfer sound etc - if you have a bluetooth icon try clicking it and bringing up the choices, when you select serial link it will establish it and then the PC suite will connect up again as it detects the link back up.

jigs - thanks for the reply. The 3com bluetooth manager seems pretty basic in terms of what it lets you define. I think I must have tweaked pretty much every setting now. I have got it synchronising but it only manages to establish connection on boot. Do you know in the PC Suite connection dialog whether I need to have the host serial, the client serial or both selected? And do you know whether or not these settings override those in contol panel under "Phone Monitor"?

Thanks

I have the same issue with reconnecting when I come back in range of the BT dongle, I called SE and asked if there was anyway to get the PC to automatically reconnect but they said there isn’t!!! its very annoying!
But about you having to reboot your PC when you want to reconnect, you shouldn’t have to, what you need to do is this…
When you get back in range goto your PC and double click on the Phone connection link in your system tray
Then deselect and Reselect the TWO com ports needed for the BlueTooth connection.
The link window will refresh and “hay presto” you connection will re-establish..
This works with my MSI BT dongle…
Hope this helps
But I would be very interested if anyone can develop or find any software to do this automatically as I use my phone at work and its very annoying that I have to go back 2 my PC all the time just to re-establish the connection!

Thanks nlhall, unfortunately, if I deselct the com ports it wont let me reselect them again

I've discovered that exitting the 3com BT manager and restarting it a few times will trigger a reconnect. I'm really starting to hate BT, it just doesn't seem to be quite "there" yet.

I have a 3com bluetooth PC card.. the software from 3com is really disappointing.. not only it's very basic.. most of the time it doesn't even work well.. like when you become out of range for example..

I also have a mitsumi bluetooth USB dongle.. works like a charm.. and i can connect and disconnect anytime i want.. it uses Widcomm software which is quite alright compared to 3com's

@zaphod
it's not the fault of bluetooth technology.. don't hate BT hate 3com for their crappy software

I know it's not typical, but I do get an automatic connection and sync sometimes, but only in a very specific setup...
Laptop: IBM A30p with built-in Bluetooth and Widcomm 1.2.2.15 stack (provided by IBM)

1. Connected to P800 and just finished syncing.
2. Close the laptop lid (it goes to standby).
3. I leave the office, but the phone stays on and goes with me.
4. I don't power off the phone all night.
5. In the morning when I get back in the office I open the laptop lid, and it starts up again.
6. It connects and starts syncing!!!! Amazing!

This is what I've always wanted, but it seems to work in the scenario described above. Maybe it's just a fluke...
