T68m to T68i so far... |

Please help me to write the story about the upgrading of t68m to t68i.
Facts (as I see it):
All SPs asked as well as SEMs own service centers (mail at global service SEMs website) say there will be a free upgrade for the t68m to t68i functionality.
All SPs I have asked (6 SPs in Stockholm) say they expected the new sw for t68m week 10 or 11. Recent question (from me) to SEM sevice center indicates "new sw will be available for upgrading before the end of this month".
Rumours:
From inside Ericsson I hear people say that the upgrade will be available in May "according to SEM".
Have seen some postings here saying that the new sw will be available week 16.
Questionmarks:
From people working with the t68 I have learned that it is not just to upgrade the sw in the meaning that you exchange just a module (or several) of the sw you also have to change the complete "operating system of the phone" since the memory management is completely different in t68m compared to t68i. I have understood that you must first update the "OS" and then load the other (t68i) sw into the phone. I do not know for sure but maybe this will make it a little bit more difficult for the SPs.
One other thing that pussels me is the fact that with new functionality SEM would have to supply new manuals for the phone. Would they be okay just to presume that all of us would read those on the internet or are they facing a logistic problem here as well?
Well this is trying to make a summery of my conclusions so far in this issue. Looking forward to your comments and the new sw of course.
Cheers.. |

Seem to me you've got most of it right. I get really worried, though, when you mention "logistic problems"... That's Ericsson in a nutshell, and may cause endless delays. |

Latest word on the upgrade is around week 20, got this from a reliable source within SE. SE is going to give all Servicepoints the software for free, but the individual servicepoint/centre may charge you for the upgrade. |
