Currently OggPlayer plays just ogg files but the developer did say at one time that he was looking to get it to play mp3 also. |

Oggs are much better in my opinon. Smaller files and better quality. It doesn't take that long to convert the songs you want to put on your p800. And its free  |

Speaking of oggs, I'm a little confused by the conversion settings. Most of my mp3s are 96 or 128. When I use JetAudio to convert, I'm presented with a somewhat daunting set of choices - CBR, VBR, ABR (I think?) and many different kbps settings therein for each. If I convert a 128 mp3 to a 128 CBR ogg, file size is the same (logically). So set me straight - the idea behind oggs is that you can lower the bitrate and maintain quality, thus ending up with a small, good quality file? What setting do you all usually use to convert?
This has probably been discussed already, so have mercy on me for not using 'search'. |

I normally convert to 96 ogg and it is usually as good as if not better than 128+ mp3
Try converting one of your songs to different ogg rates and make a note of the file size. You may not be able to notice the difference of a 64 ogg comparing with a 128 mp3. Depends how good your ear is 
If you can live with a slight drop in quality you could be bale to fix 100% more music time on your P800 MS

try having a look at : http://www.vorbis.com
also bear in mind that if you start off with a lossy format such as mp3 then using another lossy format on it (ogg) can cause really bad audio.
i've had no problems so far but ideally i'd like to try and use the ogg format straight from cd ...
i would also give http://www.dbpoweramp.com a try if your existing settings are confusing ... - the convertor is free and the settings are pretty straightforward. there's a link to the file browser and the codec on the download page ... |

Thanks for the good pointers.
The idea of re-ripping 7,000+ songs from CDs to a new audio format for lossless compression turns my bowels to ice. I think I'll give the built-in mp3 player a roll for a while and save oggplay (as nice as it is) for new oggs. Figure I'll get 40 or so mp3s on the 128 duo.

Some MP3 forums already have ogg files ready for download, im a mod on http://www.dj-addiction.com/forums/ and we usualy up oggs now to save on out webspace, of course this is only the latest dance and tracne music, but if your into that kinda stuff then it saves you a bit of time. |

I wish there was a radio on this.. so I could tune into internet radio stations.. cause ID&T got a nice radio playing trance.. Though I suppose the GPRS bill would be quite high...

I tried converting 128Kbps MP3s into 96Kbps Ogg and the audio quality was BAD.
I then proceeded to use FreeRip the same CD directly to 96Kbps Ogg and it sounds WAY WAY WAY better than the origina mp3s.
I can't hear any audio artifacts, simply clean clear sound!
The only problem with oggplay, that I see, is that it crackles when ever the phone does something...
BTW, is it me, or does the P800 have way too much Bass? |

I noticed the bass thing yesterday. Very thumpy. My guess is it's the headphones, which seem rather middling. You can get a 2.5/3.5 jack convertor and therefore use some quality headsets but then you lose handsfree. |
