I have a couple of question to put to you P800 geniuses.

1. Does anybody have the exact colour palette that the P800 uses for its display. I had the palette for my T68i and I used it to reduce the colours of images in photoshop before transferring them to my phone. This way the image looked much better on the phone screen. I have noticed that on a lot of the background images I have used for my tracker lock image that there are colour bands appearing where my P800 has badly dithered the image.

and

2. I would like to create my own startup and shutdown mp4s. I have been reluctant to play around too much due to a few comments I have read in the forum saying that if you put "bad" mp4s on the P800 that it will try to play them and just hang. My question is this: If I do happen to put "bad" mp4s on and it does hang, is there any way I can get the mp4s off again to allow my P800 to boot. The last thing I want to do is kill it for good.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

the P800 has a 4096 STN display screen.
as for your startup question, the only way to reset your phone is to bring it to a SE service center.

I guess that means I won't be playing around with the startup mp4s then

Cheers for the info on the screen. I was actually after the palette that is used. I've done a search on the net for the palette of the 4096 colour STN screen but haven't come up with anything.

One solution to the startup mp4 problem might be to only replace the shutdown.mp4 video at first, then if it crashes, you can just take out the battery, start it up and delete it, I might be wrong of course...

Has anybody out there successfully changed their startup or shutdown animations?

I've built myself a test mp4 file which is as close to the original ones in size/duration/frame rate/bitrate/audio settings as I can get but I'm still hesitating. I live in the middle of nowhere and I have to post my P800 to the nearest SE service center.

If only I had two P800's

Woohoo!!

I decided not to be such a chicken and put my custom shutdown.mp4 onto the phone.

It only went and worked!

Now for the startup.mp4

Thanks again.

Good to know but I fear it doesn't help me in finding out the exact 4096 colours used.

It doesn't have a palette, it uses 'true' color, at least as true as 12bits can represent. You just have to shift your pictures down to 12bit color rather than the 16 or 24bit that it's probably in, you might find that paint programs make a better job of the dithering etc when it does it.
