Hello Folks,
I am planning to upgrade the firmware on my T68i from R2B025 to the latest version available from the CPW (Birmingham Service Centre). I believe R7A015 is the latest version but I don't know if this will be available for O2.

I have a few questions relating to this:

1. Is the phones memory erased when the firmware is updated e.g. ringtones, address book etc.

2. Some items on the phone are factory installed and are lost if the phone is reset. Does anyone know exactly which items these are?

3. Can the firmware upgrade be done while you wait and if so how long does it take? If not is a sim required or can I take mine out and use it in my old phone whilst my T68i is being upgraded.

4. As I don't have an IR port or bluetooth adaptor on my PC does anyone know of any software for Palm PDA's that can be used to backup the phone.

5. I have read on this forum that the upgrade is free during the initial 1 year warranty period for the phone is this correct and if not how much does it cost?

6. I have also read that the latest firmware improves the phones ability to get a signal and speeds up the menus. Is there anything else i can look forward to.

Thanks for your help,

Morpheus

edit: No IR/Bluetooth on PC

#1 In most cases the memory will be erased. Do a backup of your phonebook first

#2 Sorry, dunno.

#3 If there is no other phones in queue the upgrade can be done in 20 min, but most servicepoint have a queue. The sp does not need your sim.

#4 Guess you mean you don`t have an IR port or BT support on your computer? Sorry dunno that one either...

#5 In Norway, upgrading a phone would cost around £20 to £40 if it`s not under warranty.

#6 From R2B to R7A there is a whole lot improvements, like faster menuspeeds, more stabil phone in general, more stabil BT, more stabil on the network, support for mca-25 camera and more...

Hope this helps you a bit

2. No factory installed items are lost during a master reset, unless the firmware is provider/theme specific then some settings/images specific for this firmware may be lost.

The upgrade from R2b to R7a does not erase your data. As a precaution though it is recommended that you make backups just incase something goes wrong with the upgrade.

The CPW charges £30 for an upgrade outside of warranty.

£30!? wow! just to plug the phone into a pc and press a couple of keys!

Glad I don't keep a phone for more than a year...

Anyone know how much CPW charge SE for upgrades done under warranty?

latest firmware available for t68i is r8a.... so why upgrade your fone to r7a??? theres no difference between your old firmware and the r7a.... but r8a will give you 4 more games....and faster access..... so upgrade your fone to r8a and not r7a....

Thanks for the info folks,

Looks like I'll try and get R8A I hadn't heard that it was released.
It looks like my main problem may be trying to back up my phone
as their doesn't seem to be any software out there to do this using a Palm. What about backup software for a PocketPC as I may be able to persuade my brother to let me use his PDA.

thanks,

Morpheus

1. It costs money to become a service centre, to set up that PC/smartcard. Also they provide a guarantee on their work and fix/replace your phone should the upgrade fails

2. free under warranty.

Does anyone know whether CPW has the R8A firmware available yet? Sometimes when a firmware is released, it seems to take a while to filter down to the service centers.

Good news is that after firmware upgrading our phone, CPW says that you have 90 warrantee on it... assuming like me, you upgraded to R7A about 3 weeks ago just before my 12 months were up, I could technically go and get this one updated before my 90 days are over too.

Anyone know what games are added? Better not be yet another spin on solitaire. Something more original would be nice.

As I said there, CPW is still upgrading with R7A and they have not heard of R8.
