I bought a P800 yesterday and took it straight to the service center for upgrade. It took them 20 minutes (I did not try the phone before that). When I got home and started playing around with it, I found out that there is a dark vertical line along the right third of the camera preview and in taken pictures. Is this a defect in the CCD or caused by the upgrade? what should I do (return the phone for replacement?)

Thank you for quick reply. I am building "energy" to go back there and firmly request a replacement. I am sure they will tell me that they can fix it for me, but that's factory defect and I should not pay for it (by having a refurbished unit)..... am I right?

Man, if you just got it, fixing shouldn't be an option. You have to insist that they replace it for you - it's not a cheap phone to have to live with a fault like that from day 1.

You can replace any SE phone within 7days after purchase, that is if the phone was defect when you got it.

If you're in the UK, you should also remember that you're now under the new EU consumer rules, and that the shop HAS to take it back for the first 3 months if there is problem with it.

One of the benefits is that the EU ruling says the onus of proof shifts from the consumer to the dealer - if the consumer is not satisfied, and no signs of misuse are apparant, they have to take it back or it is actionable.

Also, any purchases that have occured prior to the inception date is included under the ruling until their 3-month warranty is over. There are notes on warranties beyond 3 months, so read the EU lawbook!
