If you live in the Boston area in USA, you will soon be
able to use your phone as a walkie-talkie. The SW Fastchat is provided by the company Fastmobile and is available for P800 and Nokia 3650.

Just by pressing a key you will be able to talk to your friends (they say).

lost me a little!

talk walki talki..... over a phone call? bluetooth? IR(joke!! hehehe)

how does the phones talk to each other? bluetooth is 10m max, I can hear some that far way. I thought that mobile can not talk to each other! they must go through the servers(thats how they charge you).

It will use GPRS, and I doubt it will be limited to one specific area, unless it's carrier specific.

There's been talk about doing this on GPRS handsets for a while now, and it's certainly possible on any phones with a user installable software system, like java, series 60, or uiq.

Although PTT (push to talk) is easier, you can still send voice snippets on MMS capable handsets, and if you are using systems like www.nowmms.com to do it, you'll see similar data charges. [addsig]

They can talk across countries. It uses GPRS. Right now, I'd sign up but I don't know anyone else with a P800...

i think this is only available in USA, its about $10 a month and you can talk 2 a mate the same way you use a walkie talkie (Simplex - One person at a time). it uses the GPRS. from what i read you select someone's mobile number on the same service like you would when you make a call and hit a cretian button to page them.
