I took my P800 to the Carphone Warehouse in Bluewater today for an upgrade. Tehy said they had R2F - Horray!!!! But said he'd never done it before and said if he kills it he said it will go back too SE which will take two weeks!

I ask of everyone to pray for me and my lovely P800 which I miss already!
Regards

There is one thing to remember, at the end of the day its only a phone!

Its not like they have asked you to leave a vital part of your body behind!!

i took sw upgrade yesterday in SE service and it took one hour but without backup !

R2F rox and i like missed / outgoing / incoming calls that are not deleted after phone off !

full screen browser / video / pictures is also ok but i expected full screen browser that can be turned around for 90 degrees because browsing on html pages would be better

warning :

i have a 16 MB MS DUO and a 128 MB MS DUO.
i did only PHONE MEMORY backup, not MS DUO because there is no need to
when i did restore i have had problems - it didnt go !!!! it was of course 128 MB MS DUO in phone - then i put 16 MB MS DUO in phone and restore was ok
at the end i put 128 MB MS DUO again in phone and now everything is ok

strange !

The upgrade takes about an hour. It is free with your warranty included. You must make backup on computer. After software upgrade the phone data gets deleted.

by restoring you must have 16 mb ms duo in the phone

Except if you're in the US. Then SE will tell you:

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

We apologize for the inconvenience unfortunately Sony Ericsson does not provide firmware upgrades. However if your mobile phone is in need of service, please call the Sony Ericsson Contact Centre at 800-374-2776 for additional assistance.

I guess I'd better come up with a problem, otherwise no upgrades!

Umm.. yeah .. stick your p800 in the microwave ... WTF?

Anyways .. I shipped my P800 off to SE a few days ago for a firmware upgrade. I told them I was having problems with bluetooth connectivity and the phone would freeze up. They didn't have a problem with that explanation

took mine in for firmware upgrade and am into second day now. the service centre says that the p800 has to have the firmware upgraded online to se - service centre needs a smartcard and a dongle on their comuter. but they haven't been able to get through to se (servers busy) so no upgrade yet for me. maybe tomorrow. is this right it seems strange why on earth dont se let service centres download the upgrade so that they can then just pump it onto phones quickly. or even better if its all done online why not let us end users just go online to them and the phone upgrades??

SE USA has done several firmware upgrades for me without any problems. Each time I call, they just ask for the IMEI # and then give me instructions on how and where to send it. They've upgraded my T68m that I bought from UK 3 times already and now my P800 is on it's way back with an R2D update. I only pay for postage when sending it to them, everything else is free including 2 day return shipping.

Probable reason why firmware u/g is so slow; this is a guess: The firmware is stored in EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) which is NOT the same as system memory. EPROM memory takes a long time to 'burn' but is ultra-fast when being read. Also, I have a hunch that the u/g is done via a primitive serial connection; probably at 9600bps and every byte written will need to be carefully checked (checksum). Anyone support or refute this idea?

I bought a P800 yesterday and took it straight to the service center for upgrade. It took them 20 minutes (I did not try the phone before that). When I got home and started playing around with it, I found out that there is a dark vertical line along the right third of the camera preview and in taken pictures. Is this a defect in the CCD or caused by the upgrade? what should I do (return the phone for replacement?)
