I purchased my p800 on a new contract with Orange in feb, i am planning to now sell my phone to a mate of mine, does anybody know what happens to my insurance?
is it possible to cancel the insurance with Orange as the handset will not be with me?
or do i have to stay with them till 12 months r over?

The P800 is NOT covered by orange care by default!
unless you have asked to have this added to your talkplan and are paying a monthly fee for it then you dont have it anyway and are only covered by standard warranty! |

when i purchased the phone, they added an extra £5 a month for insurance, when i rang Orange yesterday they said even if i was to sell the phone, i will have to pay insurance for 12 months?

I would double check that as insurance is not usually contractual. I cannot be 100% sure but all the mobile insurance policies I have dealt with through work the customer can cancel at anytime. In fact if you miss more than 1 payment they normally cancel it

Orange Care is definately on a 12 month contract.
I tried to cancel it at the eleventh hour and they wouldn't let me. |

well if you'd signed a contract to say that you'll pay it for 12 months they're entitled to the money from one way or another... whether that means sending you a letter asking for a cheque or starting legal action...

Im sure the person your selling it to would like insurance, after all its a p800 and the insurance is cheap at only £5 a month, some insurance companys charge £10+ a month, then add the remaining months of £5 onto the price your selling the phone for!

@prologic
The insurance is non-transferable. It is only valid if the phone is being used by the account holder, with the registered SIM in it.
@sam12
Did you actually ask for Orange Care? If so , it IS technically a 12-month contract. However, after my initial 12 month contract with Orange had expired, and I was on the rolling month-to-month, I noticed the £5 charge appear on my bill. I called Orange, who told me that, when my free care had expired, I had made a verbal agreement to tie myself in for another 12 months at £5/month. I laughed at them and told them to prove it or take it the hell off my bill, which they duly did. But beware, they can be cheeky bastards!
