It is a unquic number of your phone. It is the one you should report to your phone company if you ever loose your phone. They can then bar your your phone from use until the number is changed by a pro.

International Mobile Equipment Identifier

It's basicly identifies your mobile like a serial number
The number can be used for network operators to identify what handset you what manufacturer model etc you have.

It's also the number that can be used to block a phone if i has been stolen
