I use Opera and I download them directly to the phone, once they are downloaded you will get a question if you want to install it. Click yes and it will be installed. Questions are just like the ones you get when using the sync.

Ok I have downloaded a couple of SIS files and they have been saved internally l haven't been offered to install anything.
The files are there but l just get told that it's an "unrecognised format" and that "no viewer could be found etc etc''

Any Ideas ???

Hmm how are you trying to run them?

Where are they being stored?

A *.sis file would normally be run from your PC, then the PC would use SyncStation to install it over the USB link to the phone.

If you are downloading them to your phone, are you copying them from your PC to your phone, then trying to run them from the phone?

Strange, have you tried the 'Install' option from the 'Programs' menu? Maybe they didn't download properly with Opera. I've only tried installing SIS files from e-mails sent to my phone, sorry.

Right, I just tried this, it went like this:

I fired up Opera, typed in the URL
http://my-symbian.info/uiq/download/search.php?name=SMSPlus

I then hit the 'Try It' button, which on my PC pops up a download dialog, but on my P800, I got a little window saying 'downloading blah blah blah' it downloaded the file (did the whole status bar thing at the top), then after a short pause, it popped up the little install dialog saying 'This program is from an unsigned source, are you sure you want to install... etc etc etc'

I would suggest that the SIS files you're trying to install have been corrupted somehow, sorry I can't be of more help!

sounds like they're not being recognised as *.sis files - may have been renamed by Opera or something ...

can you go in via file manager and check the file extension ?

I saved them to the other folder internally.

my other options were audio-video-image or docs.

In the storage manager the files are listed as
EDoom.SIS
qfileman.sis

I can't get any more detail on the files as it's file manager i'm trying to download.

As a result of my test above, Opera left the sis file in exactly the same place, the other folder in internal memory.

I've just opened up Storage Manager, clicked the 'files' button, and selected 'other' from the type list, smsplus.sis is listed there, and when I clicked, it started up the install dialog again.

I'm sticking with the sis corruption answer for the moment. Where did you download them from??
