I have just got my P800 (it is still in the box at the moment) and I was wondering how I use MP3s as ringtones.
I have heard that you have to convert the MP3s to WAV before you can use them as ringtones.
Is this true? If so, it there a recommended way of doing this.
Any advice would be appreciated as once I have given the phone its 12hr charge I plan to do some SERIOUS playing.

Thanks in advance

Yup, you have to convert the MP3 to WAV to use it as a ringtone, SMS alert, or alarm.

I found that these are the optimum settings when converting from MP3 to WAV:

Convert to WAV format using the ff settings:
-use GSM 6.10 compression (this slashes the original WAV size to 1/10)
-22 kHz, you can use 11kHz or 8kHz, but I found 22 sounds the best and loudest
-downmix to mono, since the ringtone only plays over the mono speaker, why waste the excess KB on stereo?
-try to trim the WAV file as small as possible... any excess silent sections at the start or end adds to it's overall size.

use winlame, drop quality level down to lowest setting then encode to a wav file, you can also split the wav into smaller bits like the best bit of the song with a wav splitting tool

I use SoundForge ... but I think there are a lot of free WAV editors out there (not sure) ... try typing WAV editor in Google.

This is so ironic, but since I used to own a 9210, I use the Nokia Multimedia software to convert my MP3s to WAV files.
