Hi gang... I saw this on http://www.howardforums.com in the P800 board. I haven't tried it yet but I thought this group would be interested...
http://www.fastchat.com
From the web site...
"fastchat is a complete communications service from fastmobile ltd. The suite of fastchat services includes unlimited use of walkie talkie (push-to-talk), group instant messaging (mobile to mobile and mobile to PC), picture messaging and email."
They list the P800 as one of the compatible phones...

Yeah it was announced a while back.
It's a cool idea, but could end up expensive.
You have to pay £6.99 a month on top of any GPRS charges.
If any operator released an unlimited non-WAP GPRS tariff, this app would be ideal.
Come on O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, and Orange.... release this tariff!!! |

im on an unlimited gprs plan (non-wap) but the amount I pay for that, adding £7 for this seems silly. This depends totally on the quality of voice calls over gprs in areas of low signal..
It does interest me that if i was in an area with no voda signal, but working (for example) o2 gprs, id be using their network for calls....
As for SMS, I'd prefer to use that other program which sends them through ICQ...

its not unlimited wap, it's unlimited internet gprs.
And it's a one-off tariff.

@Andy P
How did you manage to get a one off tariff with unlimited GPRS?
Pray tell |

the (relatively small) providor I use promised me gprs when i bought my t68 about 2 1/2 years ago but then couldn't deliver the promise as they didn't want to setup a pricing structure.
So they gave it me for a flat rate. It's not that cheap but it is unlimited - although i generally only use about 5mb a month anyway so it costs me far too much.

Not bad.
I think if the big four want a really big takeup of GPRS, they need to remarket it completely.
Ask any average Joe what GPRS is and they will look at you strangely.
It needs to be more attractively priced for a start, and an unlimited aspect is needed.
If they're worried about network capacity... chill.... hardly anyone uses it anyway. |

and giving ppl preinstalled wap gateways for gprs instead of full internet simply adds to support costs.

I must admit I am put off by the price. With my package I can either choose 500mins of wap a month or 0.5mb GPRS a month there after £3.00/Mb. I don't really know how long 0.5mb's would last where I can get mor of an understanding of 500 mins!

I take it you're on O2.
I'm on O2 too, I use my 500KB and it doesn't last long when browsing non wap sites, I tend to turn of "load images" to reduce the data.
I can't see how they can bill the "500mins or 500KB" part though, my guess is that you could use both 500KB and 500mins and not get charged.
The 500KB is to be used on GPRS
The 500 mins is to be used CSD on the 915000 shortcode |

i was under the impression that it was that way but my friend took out a new contract with o2 and it said if you use the GPRS you forfit all your wap mins..... but i'm not sure!

My main use would be scheduling of email checking. Would that be enough, doubtful of reading any attachments just the txt on some emails that seem important

For once/twice a day email checking, 500KB should be ok.
Start doing any browsing with that and you'll soon eat it up tho.
I've setup a data account with an ISP with a geographical number (e.g. 0141, 020, 0161) which means I can dial it and get my emails using that after 7pm, thus using my 500minutes of talktime rather than my 500KB of GPRS |
