i just downloaded the tracker software and i used the running applications option to close my running apps, i cudnt beleive how many apps i had running which do not close???
my batery used to last 15-20hrs or so and now its almost 3-4 DAYS!!!
its cleasr that running apps drain out the battery but my question to all is how the hell do we close apps like, video player audio player messges phone which is present as shortcut on the top etc....
sony ericsson hasnt given any such software if they knew the batery wud drain out with running apps, IS there any way we can close the above mentioned apps, (without tracker obiously) since THERE IS NO CLOSE options for either of them......

Nope, SE has not made a close function for many of their original programs. So we need programs like Tracker and System Manager to close running aps.

According to it is not necesary to close apps. Nor do we need a filemanager.
They were obviously wrong... |

You can use the basic free File Manager made by Ericsson Mobility World. It has a basic Task Manager built into it.
I love the "Close All Applications" command coz I use my P800 for a while & then b4 I Iock it & put it in my pocket, all I have to do is click that one command & I'm good to go.

@buddybanana,
My choice would most definetely be tracker. Not only can you close running apps, but you can keep track of how much memory you have left in your MS Duo, P800 and how much memory you are using on your phone. On top of all of that, there are quick launch and close functions....and a soon to be released "today" view.
However, if you need a free program to close apps with and free up memory, I would go with Switcher. I still use this in conjunction with Tracker.

If the link does not work, go to the home page and search for Switcher.

I think that the battery problems (w.r.t. running apps draining power) generally lie with third-party applications. Symbian have a set of guidelines specifying how applications should behave when they are put into the background. It includes things like suspending all threads, and releasing resources. I would hope that at least the applications which come with the phone adhere to these guidelines and thus it should not be necessary to close them. In an ideal world a task manager would not be necessary. Unfortunately the world isn't ideal and not bundling a task manager is pretty poor :| |

As i see it se didnt take the matter under observation and the problem still remains afthe the r2d upgrade.this is serious dsaining the battery like this..theyll wake up long after some1 took care with it with a 3rd party app.

if you're using handy day already, just click on the icon that looks like a gear on the lower portion of the screen and that brings up the task manager which lets you shut down apps or kill them in the event that they hang. |

@seninha- Hmm, isnt that gear icon on Tracker too? I havent used Handy Day. Heard that Handy Day drains the batt quicker than Tracker which uses less memory to run.
I would most definetely suggest Tracker. Try it for the evaluation period. If you really need the today view, wait until the new version is released.
I don't know how I lived without Tracker. I can now close all apps after I am done with them, without calling up some program. All I do is press the jdial down and a window pops up to ask me if I would like to close the app!. Always got lotsa memory availabale!

yup its on tracker too. i've tried both handy day and tracker, and you're right, handy day does seem to use up more power so i've been using tracker now and have switched handy day off. there are some things that handy day does better tho, but that's another story!
just that he already has handy day so no real need to buy another app.

As sum1 just said, when u have tracker running, if u wanna close an app, u can press the jogdial down and an option 2 close the current app comes up. I found this b accident as I didnt realise the jogdial has 3 push button functions - In, Up + Down along with the scroll up + down functions. This means u dont have 2 go 2 the tedious task of goin 2 fileman 2 close apps. Try it! :-)
