I have either the same or a similar problem.

I managed to sync once with outlook when I just got the phone and that was it. Now everytime I try to sync it fails or doesn't get far. If I watch the infra-red icon in the taskbar, it connects (sometimes) where you see the two IR icons flashing between them. This normally last a few seconds and then it drops the connection and just gives me the single IR icon, telling me the T68 is in range. And because of that the sync fails.

This happens with all the Ericsson software (I downloaded the T65 pack) and fails on the Outlook syncronization software and the Ericsson Phonebook manager and the Phone manager.

I have tried changing every speed and possbile driver configuration but to no avail.

I can however dial up fine and transfer files fine. So I reckon there is something wrong in the way the Ericsson software handles IRDA. Either that or its a driver thats buggered on my machine. However the IRDA works fine for laptop to laptop and laptop to my old Nokia 7110.

I also have a dell (Latitude C800) so maybe its the dell. I am running W2K-Pro. Am going to possibly upgrade to XP in the misguided hope it will help if/when I get a chance

Managed to get it to sync once then it stopped working. Removed the whole Ericsson & XTND software and reinstalled, it worked. But ONLY ONCE! Keeps geeting "This action cannot be completed because the application...... Switch or Retry??" Then it goes "Unable to communicate with Phone...Ensure able connection..."!!!
This is frustrating. I bought the T68 in order to sync with my Outlook!

Ok I think I have it figured out.

Something in the T65 software buggers things up.

I have now got it all working every time and at 115200 bps.

- I unistalled everything.
- I installed the T68 Sync Software (Package_1_for_Ericsson_PFW_version_R2A04.exe)
- I installed the T68 driver (Package_5_for_Ericsson_PFW_version_R2A04.exe)
- I installed the T65 software pack (Package_4_for_Ericsson_PFW_version_R2A04.exe)
- I installed the T68 Sync Software (Package_1_for_Ericsson_PFW_version_R2A04.exe)
- I installed the T68 driver (Package_5_for_Ericsson_PFW_version_R2A04.exe)

Now I am sure there is a way to streamline this, but its now all working, so I think its something about installing the 'offical' T68 software after installing the T65 stuff

I've just written to Sonyericsson about this.

I use WIN ME,..they told me to go with the T-65 package_4.
Unless you want to use the T-68 as a modem, you should not need to install modem drivers.

If you will use T-68 as modem,..you need to download the modem-drivers for T-68.

This should work according to Ericsson.
On for example WIN ME.

You should try and write them about WIN XP.

I stand corrected. Dont know what I did yesterday, but I am back to it will only work once after an install. Then I need to unistall and reinstall to get it to work.

The software works after that. For about 1 second and then drops the IR connection. Really damn annoying.

i will try contacting Ericsson. Although I think you gave the wrong address and it should be http://wap.sonyericssonmobile.com/

I have the same problem but I use a Toshiba Tecra 8100 w/ Windows XP Professional. It did work the first time, and last night while i'm connected to our Exchange Server via dial-up. Looks like the T68 IrDA gets screwed up with a fast connection. My Toshiba has FIR.

ArnoldC : Is there any chance, that you can change the settings to SIR instead ?

FIR should be too fast for T-68,..thats what I've read/heard in here.

Hi all

I HAD the same problems on my Dell Latitude C600, running WinXP Pro and Office XP. The problem seems to be caused by the interaction between the WinXP IRDA stack and the Ericsson Phone Monitor Software. Here is what I did to get sync via IRDA working reliably.

1) Install the T68 software package.
2) Edit the registry to stop XTNDConnect running automatically when windows loads look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MIcrosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3) Set the IRDA port to a low speed such as 9600
4)When you want to perform your first sync since logging onto your machine go to the XTNDConnect group in your start menu and select Enable tray menu for Ericsson phone synchronization this will prepare the sync software
5) Perform a sync from within Outlook

This sounds like a real pain - and it is...
Why can't Ericsson write a piece of software which works properly!!! The problem is definately caused by the Phone Monitor NOT XTNDConnect.

Anyway I have now got an AnyCom Bluetooth card and that works great So no more IRDA for me.

I had these problems with serial line with my R380 towards w2k also, after a lot of pressure towards Microsoft via , they agreed that the problem was theirs (related to the new power management in w2k, the same thing is valid for WinXP) and thay have now released a package for the serial port that resolves the problem. M$ are however not willing (according to my sources) to solve this for IR, since this will lower the battery lifetime when using IR and that it also is related to the removal of the com-port mapping of IR...

The reason for the problems is that and many other SW-vendors write multi-process programs, where one program takes over the control of the port after another program that initiated the communication and that power management of the operating system is (most of the time, but not always) shutting down power for the port in between which means that the speed negotiation isn't valid any more.

bought a licece for the XTND-software instead of developing their own software (as they did for the R380) to get rid of these problems, but without luck.

One thing that helped with the serial port towards the R380, was to run a serial-port analyser. This holds the port open at all times, but the problem is that from w2k there are no serial ports for IR any more...
...to get serial ports for IR, drivers that maps serial ports towards the IRDA-stack are needed (free ones are available at the internet). I haven't tried this myself yet, but it might actually work if the program thinks it is a serial port instead!

Hi, I am using W2k and Office2k with a laptop that has an FIR port. I have had no joy whatsoever. Although I can ActivSync my Ipaq via IrDA and I can send contacts and calendar information from my Ipaq to my T68.

I have contacted Sonyericsson about the problems and they suggested I installed the IrCOMM updtae from the R380 download area. This doesnt appear to work either.. when you try to enable the com port in the phone monitor options under control panel it allows you to enable it but when you click apply you get a dialogue box that says

' This operating system support IrSockets for infrared communications. All IrCOMM ports will therefore be disabled.'

I have a phone number for the UK which is
08705 237237 option 4 takes you to the support desk. I have been speaking to Gary although this problem seems to be stumping them....great hey spend a fortune on a phone that supossed to do it all and it doesnt!!

The data bit work great though via the Ipaq (v.110) havent tried GPRS bit expensive at the mo

The solution I have found to get this working, is whenver any of the IR fucntions fail (outlook or the two /// bits of software) I go into task manager and kill the EPMWOR~1.exe process by right clicking on it and selecting "end process tree". After doing that, I then move my phone away from the IR port and let it drop the connection, I then put my phone in front of the port and it let it reconnect and it seems to work find after that. A pain which is why I am waiting for my TDK bluetooth card to arrive (say hello to 50m range )
