Imagine this:

A JAVA app for your bluetooth enabled mobile that "broadcasts" your stats and scans for compatible people. When found the phone will buzz you and ask if you want to initiate a conversation.

It could keep info like
Age, gay/straight, single/married, hate/like star trek, etc.,
and you could program it only to alert you when there was someone else that matched your criteria.

There have been gadgets sold like this, but I think that the mobile phone is ubiquitous enough that it might catch on!

Java will enable little programs like this to be downloaded. It's the future!

Thats a good idea, now if you also have a voice conversation with devices in the 50m (possible) range using bluetooth i would save allot of money! :-o

if the other person is 50m away, why don't just go over and talk to him/her?

This would come handy in offices or in trains where there are tons of people packed in the tube or whatever way you use to transport yourself
