I've had my T300 for a month or so, now and I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the variance in quality seen in the pictures taken with my MCA-25. Some were really good (almost good enough to be used as PC wallpaper) whilst others were extremely blurry and suffered greatly from JPEG artifacts.

Finally, it dawned on me: the poorer images were taken with 'help' from the zoom function. As far as I can tell, the zooming is done by software and not by adjusting the camera's lenses (well, have you ever heard them whirr?). I took a few shots around the flat, of various things, some zoomed in, some not. After comparing them, I came to the conclusion that the phone is just cropping the full size image that the camera can see and scaling it so it matches the specified image size, making it both blurry and less suited to the JPEG-encoding algorithm.

My advice: if you're going to transfer your MCA-25's pictures to a PC, don't bother with the zoom. You won't gain any extra detail by doing so and you might as well crop down the full image in a graphics package, should you so wish. Try it for yourself and compare. If you use a T68 with an older firmware revision or an older camera (both of which means you can't zoom), I wouldn't bother upgrading. Oh, and while I'm ripping apart the camera, the overlay effects are crap, too

MCA-25 has digital, not optical zoom. Nothing new really, all pics on all digital cameras suffer on quality when using digital zoom. With mca its just more easy to spot, as it has low resolution.

The upgrades are for more than the zoom on the cam,so there is need for an upgrade even if u aint got a cam,and an upgrade for the zoom is needed on the t68i,not for the t300. Remember that its a phone u bought with an add on camera, not a camera with an add on phone. If that was the case then the phone wud be shit! (going by your opinion of course) :-D

Yes, its really nothing new. The zoom is quite useful when MMSing pictures taken with the MCA-25. If you send the pic to another phone that is. Considering the MCA effects : totally useless

It's of no use actually, rather have a flash than the stupid digital zoom that don't work like one
