hello all. i'm new here, and i have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with:

(1) is there a free international email-to-sms gateway anyone knows of that works for all countries? i tried ICQ's gateway (+...@icqsms.com), but it didn't work for me (i'm in israel)

(2) does anyone know of any free email i can use that allows POP access, and that provides an SMS alert when new messages are received? or alternatively, just a free SMS alert service where you can define which e-mail account it should check to send you an alert when you get a new message?

(3) the name of my service provider appears twice on the screen: "orange" on the top, and underneath it, "IL orange". someone suggested that one of them may be programmed in the sim card, but when i'm roaming (e.g. in hong kong, where i bought the phone), only the name of the service provider i'm using appears (on either one or two lines). anyone know why it appears twice, and if there's anything i can do to get rid of the 2nd line? (it's annoying for the background pictures...)

(4) there's no sony-ericsson service center in israel. does anyone know how it works for getting a software upgrade in a different country, e.g. if i go to europe on vacation? would they do it for me? if so, would it be free, or would i have to pay, and if so, how much?

(5) when you do a software upgrade, does it reset all the phone's preferences? what about memories--phone book, sms's, melodies, backgrounds... do they get reset, or do they stay intact?

(6) i tried synchronizing my calendar/contacts with truesync, as it's described in one of the posts here, but it tells me "synchronization failed". then, i tried using a public gateway (tried both waptunnel and ericsson), but as soon as it connects to orange's internet number with a profile with a public gateway, it tells me "wrong user id/password". what am i doing wrong???

(7) assuming i can get the sync feature to work, is it possible to synchronize with yahoo calendar?

thanks a lot in advance to whoever can help me with any or all of these questions!

HI,

  1. I only know http://www.mtnsms.com or http://www.everyday.com but that is not email to mobile...
  2. I think yahoo does, i've read a few people here who use it on their phone...

  3. I have the same on my phone, you can get rid of it I THINK, by going to the options part of the sms... I think it's 'reception' of info or something like that...
  4. Yes, you can get it done abroad, normally it should be free if you show your receipt.
  5. Don't know the answer... sorry
  6. Don't know either...
  7. ....

Don't know if that was much help, but it was my best shot...

Good luck!

calvin0927,

3) I have the same irritating problem. And this is how it's programmed in the SIM. My operator will only show SMART if you're on pre-paid and SMART / PH SMART if you're on postpaid. Hate it! If I have a SIM programmer, I'd remove both!

6) When you configure your data account (I think you used GSM data) this is where you enter the username /password from the *operator*. In the WAP profile, when you define the Ericsson developer's gateway, there is *no* password.

7) Yahoo *does not* support SyncML.

so they're transmitting the network name twice? what's the point in that??? anyone know if it's possible to ask them to do something about this, or will they just laugh in my face or not even know what i'm talking about?

i tried this, that's how i had it--i had orange israel's settings for the data account (same settings i use to connect for wap browsing), but i set up a different wap profile with ericsson's gateway (or the other one), with no user id or password... didn't work what else could i be doing wrong?
