Dont forget that just because you start a contract at £74/month you don't have to pay that for 12 months.
Different places seem to have different rules, but most places you opnly have to stick to the tariff for 1-3 months. It's worth checking though because some will sting you on the cost of the handset if you reduce your tariff too soon.

TMobile rang me up and told me yesterday :
"Please, O PLEASE, come off the crappy All-in-one tariff as it is costing us too much and buy a nice expensive Everyone tariff instead."
I obliged. I am now on the Everyone200 tariff (the one I was looking to change to anyway). In return my CPWH P800 was given to me @ :
Price of phone = £350
Price of upgrade discount -£100
Credit to my TMobile bill -£215
Thus leaving me with quite a nice replacment for the dated t68i for the grand ol' price of £35.
Isn't life wonderful sometimes ?

Just thgt Id share my experience.
I got mine from a local shop in Hounslow. I was looking for O2 but the only did T-Mobile + Orange so they offered me the P800 for £120 and OVP O2 250 Tarrif@35pm (Initial 4 month cost £260) - which I could not change for 4 months otherwise Orange claw back the RRP of the phone which the dealer then gets u to sign a dislaimer to debit the amount from ur CC.
They then rung me the next day saying their manager could not honour the deal but they could do a deal of P800 - £99 and OVP Everyone 300@£42.50 (Initial 4 Month Cost £269) the same tarrif changing rules applied.
I was in a rush to get 2 college and accepted this offer but later I rang Orange and asked a really helpful guy them whether this was legal as I have a original signed contract with with OVP O2 250 on it as the proce plan. The guy said that this was a bit dodgy and said if it was them that had made a mistake, then they would have to honour it. The other thing is that on Orange's systems, my tarrif was started as OVP O2 250 and the guy said technically I can change it back with out Orange clawing the dealer back for the money as that was what the dealer agreed on sign up, but that I shouldnt do it for a while as 2 tarrif changes in 1 month would be suspect and some1 in Orange might inform the dealer.
Il prob wait at least 1-2 months and then ask Orange if they are gonna claw £ back from the dealer if I change back to the lower tarrif. If I can get away with this 'scam' then I might save up to £30.

Got mine from www.themobilerepublic.com for £7.99 on a £75 tariff. Changed down to a Talkshare tariff (£15 on my existing plan) after month 1 and all seems fine so far.
There's nothing on their site that says you must stay with the tariff for x months, although it does say something like "most networks make you stay for x months". I've checked with Orange and they say that unless the supplier specifically says you have to stay on that tariff you can change when you want.
