Hello, I know this has been aksed before and that I should "USE SEARCH" but I really have tried. I found out that I have to convert it to waw and after much searching found a converter. The problem with it is of course is that it's over 42 megs big. I tried to find anything to cut out the bit of the song that I wanted but didn't find anyone.
Does anyone know anything to do this, any program guide or something like it.
Thank you.

I use SoundForge, but cool edit pro is also pretty good try and track down a copy of either

If you get soundforge...

Trim the bit you want this i'll be from the full wav file but I presume you can open a mp3 and use that (I just rip the whole track off my cd's at the mo), increase the volume if necessary, 'normalise' it then 'convert to 8bit' and then resample to either 22kHz or 16kHz and save as a mono file using PCM or ADPCM you really might wanna experiment to get the best trade off. Equally using the GSM 6.01 codec cuts alot of info out but can really distort the music its best for voice clips or heavily vocal tracks. I haven't tried any of the other codecs i've got since these seem to produce the results I want.

Not to sound dumb, but why can't mp3's be used as ringtones? It'd seem like the obvious choice.

Simply because the P800 does not support it. Seems a bit strange that it can play MP3 files but not use them as ringtones.

Suppose there's an answer somewhere .....

I just came to think of an old program I've used before called MP3 Cutter, so I sat down and searched for it and after a while I found an amazing site for questions about MP3 to WAW and all that, heres the adress: http://www.geocities.com/pipeline/ramp/7510/mp3stuff.htm#changing%20mp3
Thanks again.

a special Mp3 cutter huh?....
I just use a filesplitter rename the files from .class to mp3 and finished great to get pieces of live set's on your memory.

ok... so would it be possible for someone to make an app or maybe in a future update, make the p800 use mp3 as ringtones? It's very stupid it can play mp3's but not allow them as ringtones. The only explanation I can think of is that maybe it uses to much processing power for the p800 to decode the mp3 as a ringtone. An mp3 as a ringtone would be a damned sight beter than a huge (or small and crappy) wav

Have a CD Burner? 90% of people have these days. Use Nero? It comes with Wave Editor. this opens mp3's, edits, saves to wav, etc. So, anyway, mp3's as ringtones without converting to .wav, it ever going to be possible or not?

I think the reason why you cant have MP3's as ringtones is to do with copyright laws. SonyEricsson I dont think were allowed to include the option of letting us do that else it would break the copyright laws in a lot of countries.

I know what you will all say, i.e. "Well if we can make MP3s into WAV files and use those, doesnt that defeat the purpose?", but I bet you that is where the answer lies.
