Just received the PQI USB Memory Stick Card Reader / Writer from www.ebuyer.com earlier in the week http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=30931
its a USB device, which (unlike quite a few other MS devices) allows you to plug a DUO into it without using the standard MS adaptor. You can plug the device directly into your USB port, or they also provide a 1m extension cable if you wanna put the device somewhere else.
Transfers are nice and fast (4MB MP3 takes about 10 secs, compared to the 5 mins with the SyncStation) and the device integrates with Windows Explorer as a Removable Disk so you can drag stuff straight to it easily.
Now the best bit...the price...£5.30 inc VAT +P&P (£1.99 for 3 day Royal Mail Registered post) ! I dont know how they can make these things for that sort of money !
Well worth trying it out! I'm using mine at work while my Syncstation is at home, cos theres no way I'm paying stupid money for another data cable, and I only transfer .SIS files and MP3s at work.

ERR yeah.,,as I said, u can use the Duos without the adaptor. Works with both Duos and standard MS. I was expecting to have to use the MS adaptor, but tried the Duo on its own and it works fine.

Exactly..it cost you around £25. Those of us who dont need to be able to read 5 different types of memory (like me who only has MS) dont really want to pay £25. Hence why this device is ideal.
Its also quite common for MS reader/writers to need you to use the full-size MS adaptor, which this one doesnt, and this makes it even more portable.

Hi,
I have just purchased a brand new PQI Memory Stick Reader/Writer (Single Slot Reader) and every time i put it into Windows 2000 and XP Systems, it prompt's for drivers.
When i purchased the product, the product description said
Single Slot Reader/Writer for Smartmedia cards
Hot-Swappable Supported,
Compliant to USB Spec. 1.1 with full speed
Low Power Consumption,
Suitable for Desktop & Notebook PC
Windows 98 /98SE /ME/2000/XP and Mac O/S 8.6 & above Supported
Mass Storage Class Compatible,
No Driver Needed in Windows ME,XP
I purchased this product on the basis of "No Driver Needed in Windows ME,XP". Can you please tell me why this is happening?
The product was purchased from www.ebuyer.co.uk.
Thanks.

Does it require any software, or can I just plug it into any computer? If so, I could use it to transfer files between computers. |
