I have searched for topics discussing this and the best suggestion seems to be to use TIPICME. Why is that? Doesn't the phone have its own viewer? If it does, how can I access it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah it has its own viewer. Just drag the doc or excel file into the documents folder in your myp800 menu on your pc desktop then open the program called viewer and click the file you want to open.

I am looking at an excel spread sheet on my screen as I type and it looks fine, Using R2D so it does work.

How big is the file?

Same here... Excel and Word docs look fine on mine (R2D)

Make sure the Excel doc isn't password protected... it sounds like you're P800 is viewing an encrypted file.

I'm almost sure it wasn't in the previous version but in the latest fw version, you are able to view multiple sheets in an excel file. Great improvement in functionality.
