Im planning on getting my P800 upgraded to R2D 2mrw from CPW on Baker St.
What i wanted to ask is that as the upgrade clears everything on the phone memory- is it possible to backup all data- i.e. contacts- with PC Suite 1.4.2 with the new software version?

Yes it clears the phone memory and yes if you back it up before hand everything will be just fine when you restore it.

Yes it is possible to backup only your:

- contacts
- Jotter
- Calendar
- SMS/MMS/EMAIL
- Pics
- Audio
- Docs

U can backup these manually...

How To ? ? ?

1. Put ur P800 on the docking station, the phone must be on

2. Start 'Restore/Backup' program

3. Choose Backup
a. The phone will be turned off
b. Turn it back on

4. Watch your monitor!

5. When it says Backup in progress, and u see the two bars > Press CANCEL

6. Do not touch anything else ! DO NOT TURN THE PHONE ON! Let it stay that way!

7. Exit the backup/restore programm

8. Start Filemanager (Epocware)

9. As u can see, ur P800 is connected, and no file is in use, and u can copy anything u like:
a. Contacts (From system/data/)
b. Audio
c. Sms (from system/mail/)
d. Etc, etc, etc

Watch out while copying files!!! Some of them u must copy twice because the first time it stays 0 bytes

Good luck... and hopefully some1 will help me...

Its not he greatest update but its ok.

Things i had installed on the phone were still there but everything else had gone.

The video player is virtually the same. The max size is still 190*140, but you have the option of "widescreen" which is poor as it just stretches the video to fit the screen and is unclear and slow and looses sync with the audio.

There is night mode on the camera, and you can also change the delay timer time, and picture freeze timer.

In the Pictures setting you can zoom in once or view in fullscreen mode "widescreen", and animated screensavers have a stop/play
button.

Audio haas a slightly different layout, but still no mp3 as ringtone. but you can "send as" in the main options now.

The internet has full screen mode and a few more settings.

messages have the option of delivery reports which need to be set with each message sent, but the reports only show the number it was delivered too, not the name. And delivery reports cant be used in "flip close" mode

Ther are extra options in "flip closed" mode like listening to mp3 with it shut.

And there is a different default screen saver, kinda like windows ones.

@dannykipling

I can understand a 190*140 video being stretched in widescreen mode but are you saying a video file created as a 320*204 full screen size (or PocketPC size 320*240 file) will not work? Are you still limited to 190*140 videos? If so, then I don't know why they bothered.

I think you're still limited to the 192x144 video size... unlike VICS video player which can play full 320x208 video, at a VERY smooth frame rate.

The nice thing about the R2D (I call it R2D2 ) update is that the mic feedback is now gone!!! It's so much easier to hear the other party now, even in a noisy environment!

In Audio, where's the option to SEND AS? I can't find it, and I've upgraded to R2D.

you have to select which track you want to send, press play or pause it, then its in the optons at the top.

it only appears if you view the audio in list form.

(the 2nd of the little boxes bottom left)

There aren't any options at the top, just AUDIO and EDIT, neither of which contain SEND AS

then select which song you want to send, press play, go to audio, 2nd option down is send as :- bluetooth/infrared/mms.

i actually had this option before the upgrade.
