bluetooth and "auto" setting |

when i have my P800 on "auto" setting, it doesn't get found by my latop, however when i switch to "on" i don't have any problems and can connect fine.
am i missing something? |

I think auto, (at least how it works on my t68i), is a lower powersaving mode of bluetooth. The phone is not activly making connections, but as soon as you want to send something or click recieve item it's ready.
It seems confusing to me. But just for power's sake I always leave bluetooth off.
Just my 2 cents. |

I have been having nightmares getting bt to discover anything with my p800 just think it takes a bit more effort????????????? |

In the t68i, setting it to automatic doesn't make it discoverable so other bluetooth devices cannot find it until you set it to discoverable. Don't know about the p800 since i haven't handled one.

If you want to use the BT with P800, keep it ON all the time. (this my opinion)
In Auto mode I'm really suffering cause some times I lost the connection between the P800 and the Headset, so I have to keep it ON all the time, I don’t know if this prob will be fixed in the (R2D). |

The modes are:
off: Off.. you cannot use it at all.
auto: It's off until you need it. The phone cannot be discovered and it uses no extra power except when sending.
On: The bluetooth is on. But other bluetoothdevices CANNOT find your p800 UNLESS it has been paired with them. This mode drains the battery.
Discoverable: Same as on except other bluetooth devices can find your p800. Also drains the battery.
Note: I'm pretty sure on and discoverable uses the same amount of battery as the bluetooth receiver must be on in both cases. On simply refuses to respond to "pings". |

So does this mean when I 'discover' other people's BT devices, e.g. when I'm on a train, looking to cause mischief, and I find some BT phones, does this mean that these bozos have their phones set to 'discoverable' instead of 'on' in error - if they're using other BT devices paired with their phones, they should be using the 'on' mode...?

Yes... But this may only hold true for  phones.. There may not be a setting similar to "on" in a nokia. They may only have on or off. I don't know this... But I think the 7650 has bluetooth on "discoverable" as standard...
And yes. When using paired bluetooth devices(handsfree and the like) and you do not wish anyone to find your phone you should set it to on. |

Ahhh - that makes sense, at least 2 of the three phones I 'pinged' this morning were Nokias, and one a 7650.

Scored *two* direct hits this morning! The ignorant 6310i user was telling his mate that it was some SMS narketing scam that was buggin' him - "Buy an Ericsson!"; Duh! Cant' work out the difference between recieving a contact and an SMS??!!
